Another young actor from Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is emerging as a rising star, joining the list of actors from this film who have broken out since its release. Tarantino’s last film included an all-star cast, led by Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, and Margot Robbie. However, it may be the supporting cast that makes it worth revisiting six years later.
In one of the film’s most memorable moments, Pitt visits members of the Charles Manson cult that lives on Spahn Ranch. The Manson cast includes plenty of familiar faces before they became stars, such as Sydney Sweeney, Austin Butler, Margaret Qualley, Mikey Madison, Maya Hawke, and Victoria Pedretti.
Since 2019, Madison has won an Oscar, Butler was nominated for one, and the others have all received acclaim and notoriety for other film and TV roles. Now, another alum has a significant leading role in Freakier Friday. She stole the show during her scene in the Tarantino film, and the Disney sequel shows why she could potentially be OUATIH‘s next breakout star.
Freakier Friday Reminds You Of The Talent Of OUATIH’s Julia ʙuттers
In OUATIH, Julia ʙuттers played Trudi Fraser, a child actor who is wise beyond her years. She’s dedicated to her craft and incredibly well-educated. She stars in an episode of the fictional western show Lancer with DiCaprio’s Rick Dalton, and has a conversation with him before their scene. She plays a part in getting him out of his funk and gives him more confidence as an actor.
Trudi’s role is challenging, but ʙuттers played it extraordinarily well, becoming one of the film’s many highlights. She’s convincing as a child acting prodigy and has excellent chemistry with DiCaprio, one of the greatest modern actors. Following her performance in OUATIH, she landed roles in Netflix’s The Gray Man and Steven Spielberg’s The Fabelmans, working with another of Hollywood’s best filmmakers.
ʙuттers, 16, has already achieved a lot in her career, and finally has a prominent role in a high-profile film in Freakier Friday. She plays Harper Coleman, Anna’s (Lindsay Lohan) teenage daughter. She swaps places with her mother and works with Sophia Hammons’ Lily, now body-swapped with Tess (Jamie Lee Curtis), to break up their parents before they get married.
One of the most challenging aspects of the body-swap concept is convincingly playing another person, but ʙuттers and the rest of the cast do it exceptionally well. ʙuттers knows how to portray Lohan’s character as an adult in a teenager’s body, and much of the film’s best comedy comes from her and Hammons’ antics as they pretend to be Lohan and Curtis.
She and Hammons also have great chemistry, as the two try to immerse themselves in modern teenage culture, which is drastically different from 2003. With Freakier Friday, ʙuттers is still at the beginning of her career, but she could easily be at the level of her other OUATIH co-stars soon.
