Leonardo DiCaprio reveals his biggest regret as an actor. The тιтanic star will next be seen in Paul Thomas Anderson’s comedy adventure, One Battle After Another, coming to theaters on September 26. In the movie, DiCaprio stars as a former revolutionary and a dad named Bob, who seeks help from his old friends when his daughter goes missing.
In an interview with the writer-director for Esquire, DiCarpio opened up about the one movie he still regretted not doing. The actor was candid and shared that his “biggest regret is not doing Boogie Nights,” which became “a masterpiece,” though he thought Mark Wahlberg was perfect for the role of Eddie Adams. Read his comment below:
I’ll say it even though you’re here: My biggest regret is not doing Boogie Nights. It was a profound movie of my generation. I can’t imagine anyone but Mark [Wahlberg] in it. When I finally got to see that movie, I just thought it was a masterpiece. It’s ironic that you’re the person asking that question, but it’s true.
What This Means For Leonardo DiCaprio
DiCaprio has turned down several high-profile roles that changed cinema history. Back when George Lucas was casting for the Star Wars prequel trilogy, DiCaprio was one of the actors considered for the role of Anakin Skywalker. However, the star pᴀssed on the opportunity because he didn’t feel like it was the right fit for him at the time.
Similarly, DiCaprio was offered Keanu Reeves’ role in The Matrix, but he turned it down because he didn’t want to commit to a big-budget franchise after тιтanic. The list goes on. However, the R-rated 1997 comedy drama turned out to be the star’s biggest regret in Hollywood. Boogie Nights stars Wahlberg as a busboy who gets discovered by a porn director and becomes an adult-film sensation.
Written, directed, and co-produced by Anderson, the movie received three Oscar nominations, including one for Best Screenplay. Even though DiCaprio didn’t end up working with Anderson back then, the two teamed up over two decades later for another comedy. The actor’s comment hints at the reason behind his interest in One Battle After Another.
Our Take On Leonardo DiCaprio’s Missing Out On Boogie Nights
From sci-fi heists to action dramas and period pieces, DiCaprio has done a wide range of movies. Except for fantasy, superhero, and comedy (not anymore), the actor has done nearly all the major genres. Missing out on Boogie Nights may have led to him taking the lead role in One Battle After Another, which is a fantastic addition to the star’s already diverse career.
It’s hard to imagine anyone other than Walberg playing the role of Eddie in Boogie Nights, but interestingly, despite being his breakout role, the actor had some regrets about being involved in the movie later on in life due to his religious beliefs and family.
