LEGO UCS Death Star Set Revealed: First Look at the $1000 Star Wars Model

New images of the LEGO UCS Death Star, priced at $1,000 and with over 9,000 pieces, have leaked online. One of the biggest Star Wars models ever made, the new Death Star model will also be one of LEGO’s most expensive builds of all time. It features over 9,000 pieces and nearly 40 individual minifigures.

Expected to release on October 1, LEGO’s new UCS Death Star is one of the most high-profile Star Wars models ever released. This is due to the rarity of large-scale Death Star sets (and the new model’s impressive price tag). Now, LEGO Star Wars fans can decide for themselves if the new UCS Death Star is one to add to the collection.

Coming in at just over 9,000 pieces, the new UCS Death Star dwarfs the previous 2016 model by 5,007 pieces. The LEGO Group has certainly taken a bold swing by making their new Death Star in the style of a large-scale diorama, rather than providing a fully round battle station with exterior pieces like fans had been expecting.

Instead, it seems as though this iteration is meant to be mounted or put up against the wall, featuring multiple iconic scenes from both A New Hope and Return of the Jedi. This includes the trash compactor scene, Luke and Leia swinging to safety, the Imperial conference room, Palpatine’s throne room, and more.

The new UCS Death Star mode also features a wide variety of Star Wars minifigures, new and old. Many of these minifigures are characters we’ve seen before and would expect like Luke, Leia, Han Solo, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Darth Vader, Grand Moff Tarkin, Emperor Palpatine, and more.

However, there’s also a collection of minifigures who’ve never received the brick-built treatment before, including the Death Star’s lead engineer Galen Erso and one of Palpatine’s Imperial Dignitaries. There’s also a classic H๏τ Tub Stormtrooper, a hilarious nod to the secret H๏τ tub room found in the original Star Wars LEGO video games.

Overall, the new UCS Death Star is large enough to be quite thorough with its interiors, depicting all the biggest and most important Death Star scenes from the original trilogy.

Some collectors may find the surprisingly flat design and lack of exteriors controversial, while others may balk at the admittedly high price tag. Regardless, the level of detail on each level is quite good, making the new UCS Death Star one of the best (and certainly biggest) diorama Star Wars models LEGO has ever released.
