The Naked Gun 5 Gets Promising Response From Producer Despite Liam Neeson’s Comment

The Naked Gun‘s producer offers a promising update on a follow-up to Liam Neeson’s 2025 reboot. The fourth installment in the Naked Gun franchise stars Neeson as Lt. Frank Drebin Jr. opposite Pamela Anderson, who plays his love interest Beth.

While the comedy crime movie’s plot involves a serious investigation into a bank robbery, a ᴅᴇᴀᴅ body, and a tech billionaire’s sinister plan, it mainly serves as a spoof on police procedurals and crime dramas. The movie has a “certified fresh” score of 88% on Rotten Tomatoes and achieved a strong box office performance.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, The Naked Gun producer Erica Huggins talked about the possibility of a sequel. When asked whether there have been talks about a sequel, she replied, “Absolutely,” and revealed that conversations about the franchise’s future have been happening among writers, filmmakers, and both lead stars. Read her comment below:

Absolutely. We’ve now had enough conversations among the filmmakers, and certainly with Pam [Anderson] and Liam, too, when we were selling the movie in the blue sky version of what could happen next, yes, we were thinking about where it could go and what it could be. Akiva and Dan and Doug, our writers, we’re all talking about it.

What This Means For The Naked Gun

Previously, Neeson offered his take on The Naked Gun‘s sequel potential and shared that he believed the movie would be a one-off. However, it seems that conversations about another movie have been taking place behind the scenes as early as when the reboot was only in the pitching stage. There’s a possibility of a fifth movie taking place, but whether it will be solidified is another question.

The Naked Gun reboot has grossed over $56 million worldwide, with $32 million coming from the domestic box office. In addition to receiving critics’ approval, the movie has been largely enjoyed by moviegoers. The Neeson comedy movie currently has a 75% Rotten Tomatoes score from the audience.

Huggins’ comment gives audiences some hope. With the commercial and critical success of The Naked Gun in 2025, there might be enough reason for the studio to greenlight a follow-up.

Our Take On A Potential Sequel To The Naked Gun

The Naked Gun captures a rare aspect of Neeson and proves that his comedic side is just as impressive as his action side. Primarily known for playing a Die Hard-style vengeful dad on-screen in several movies, the 2025 reboot might have opened a new chapter in the star’s career.

Neeson deserves a career in comedy after spending years in the action genre, and The Naked Gun happens to have all his best features in one place. Hopefully, a sequel’s potential will be explored further than conversations.
