Netflix’s Extraction 3 Gets A New Update From Chris Hemsworth

Chris Hemsworth offers an update on the planned Extraction 3. The upcoming movie was confirmed by Netflix after the success of the first two movies, which star Hemsworth as Tyler Rake, a former Australian SASR operator turned black ops mercenary. The Russo brothers are expected to return as producers, and Sam Hargrave will return to helm the project.

Despite being confirmed, the movie doesn’t have a release date yet. Now, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Hemsworth offered an update on where they are with Extraction 3. The Thor: Ragnarok star revealed that they are “putting together some different ideas” for the third movie, which they “certainly” have the intention to make. However, the actor admitted that he doesn’t have a timeline. Read what he said below:

[Tyler Rake is] getting restless. We, the creative team, are putting together some different ideas and creative ventures of where we could take the whole place and the [third] film. But the intention is to certainly make another one. I don’t know exactly when, but yeah, it’ll be coming.”

What This Means For Extraction 3

Despite the movie being ordered by the streamer in 2023, Hemsworth confirms that the scheduled Extraction 3 is still in early development, with the exact plot details remaining undetermined. The lack of a clear timeline also indicates that the creative team might not be close to reaching a definite plan to approach the planned threequel.

Hemsworth’s comment casts some uncertainty around the movie’s progress, but he does reᴀssure fans that the creative team behind the project is actively working on developing it. In the same interview, the actor teased that his “inner Tyler Rake” is feeling the “needs to be released,” hinting that if everything goes well, they might have some solid updates sometime soon.

Hemsworth will next be seen in Bart Layton’s crime movie, Crime 101, currently in post-production, and will play a part in the Russo brothers’ Avengers: Doomsday, currently in production. Earlier this year, it was confirmed that the actor will also star in a submarine action flick тιтled Subversion at Amazon MGM.

Given the actor’s busy schedule and already announced film commitments, Extraction 3 likely won’t arrive this year. It also sounds unlikely that the movie will become part of next year’s slate. Nevertheless, the Avengers: Infinity War actor’s update suggests that Hemsworth is aching to go back to the Extraction set, hinting at potential movement in the next few months.

The actor’s action franchise made Netflix history back when Extraction 2 was released, with both films landing on the streamer’s Top 10 all-time chart. While there has been a lack of movement in the past, more updates might come sooner than later.
