The Superman movie has finally landed a digital release date as James Gunn confirms it in a new DC Universe update. The Man of Steel made a triumphant return to the big screen in 2025 with the Superman movie from Gunn, starring David Corenswet as the тιтular hero for the DCU franchise.
Gunn’s Superman movie has officially become the highest-grossing Superman film in the U.S., as the DCU installment has collected $331.3 million domestically. Internationally, Superman has grossed $247.8 million, with its worldwide box office sitting at $579.1 million in total.
As of August 12, 2025, Superman has been in theaters for over a month, and Gunn has now confirmed on X that the DCU release will be available on VOD starting on Friday, August 15. Check out his full announcement below:

According to Warner Bros. Discovery, Superman will be available on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD from online and physical retailers as of September 23. The release of Superman on digital will come 35 days after its theatrical run began. Participating digital retailers will also continue to sell Superman through high definition and standard definition.

The Superman Digital, 4K UHD, and Blu-ray are also set to come with multiple exciting featurettes that give a deeper look into Gunn’s 2025 installment. Gunn shared on Threads on August 4 that he was in the process of recording the Director’s Commentary for Superman.
Our Take On The Superman Home Media Release
While many may see this as an early release, in particular for digital, Superman has had a good box office run, and digital purchases are bound to factor into the film’s success, too. It still remains to be seen when Superman will make its debut on HBO Max, as that has not been announced yet.
Following the Superman post-credits scene, it remains to be seen where the Man of Tomorrow will be seen next in the DCU franchise. But for now, as Superman gets ready for its VOD and home media release, fans can soon finally own 2025’s most commercially successful superhero film.
