Pedro Pascal urges fans to see the new hit horror movie he dropped out of. Directed by Zach Cregger, Weapons follows the mysterious disappearance of 17 children who got out of bed one night and ran out of their homes at the same time. The movie came to theaters on Aug. 8 and features a star-studded cast including Julia Garner, Josh Brolin, Benedict Wang, and Cary Christopher.
Meanwhile, Pascal stars in the most recent MCU feature film, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which has been in movie theaters since July 24. The latest cinematic relaunch of the Fantastic Four has grossed $434 million worldwide so far against a reported $200 million budget. Pascal has also reportedly wrapped filming on his scenes for Avengers: Doomsday.
Via his Instagram story, the Last of Us star urged fans to go see Weapons, a movie for which he was cast but was forced to drop out of. Pascal shared a snapsH๏τ of the movie’s poster and wrote: “Go to the f***ing movies (if you can) #weapons.“
What Weapons’ Success Means For Pedro Pascal
Pascal reportedly was part of Weapons‘ original cast, which also features Brian Tyree Henry, Austin Abrams, and Renate Reinsve. Pascal was supposed to play Josh Brolin’s Archer Graff, one of the missing children’s father. However, the Hollywood writers’ strikes delayed the production, which caused a conflict with Pascal’s schedule.
Cregger has stated that even though he had to “recast the entire movie,” he has no “ill will” towards anyone (via Variety). Weapons has made $42 million at the opening weekend box office and gone viral on social media, which indicates significant success and popularity for an original horror movie.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps, on the other hand, despite having crossed the $400 million milestone, falls short of a superhero blockbuster. Pascal will next be seen on the big screen in Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu, in which he stars as the тιтular Mandalorian opposite Jeremy Allen White as Rotta the Hunt.
Our Take On Pedro Pascal’s Dropping Out Of Weapons
Weapons would’ve been a very different movie if the strikes hadn’t taken place. Despite having encountered delays and other challenges, Zach Cregger’s new horror is turning out to be a smash hit. Currently holding a 95% Rotten Tomatoes score, Weapons has received overwhelmingly positive reviews from critics and audiences alike.
Weapons‘ production took place from May 2024 to July 2024. First Steps started filming in 2024 and wrapped in early 2025, while The Last of Us season 2’s production took place from February 2024 to August 2024, and Materialists‘ ran from April to June.
Around the same time, the star was also promoting and attending events for Gladiator II, The Wild Robot, and Drive-Away Dolls. While it does seem that Pedro Pascal missed out on arguably the best horror movie in recent years in Weapons, there was no way he could’ve made it.
