Rebels Genius: The Underrated Mastermind Hiding in Plain Sight

I just realized that one underrated Star Wars character is actually a lot smarter than I thought. Let’s face it, the Star Wars galaxy has an awful lot of genius-level heroes and villains. In the more scholarly and academic fields, you have people like Galen Erso, responsible for figuring out the Death Star’s superlasers, but others are tactical geniuses.

Palpatine believed only two of his strategists would have been able to turn the tide against the Rebel Alliance; Grand Moff Tarkin and Grand Admiral Thrawn. Surprisingly, though, I’ve just realized there is another who surely ranks among the smartest in the galaxy, an unlikely contender.

Sabine Wren Is Secretly One of the Galaxy’s Smartest People

Introduced in Star Wars Rebels, Sabine Wren is a Mandalorian warrior who is actually something of a mechanical genius. Sabine’s dark origin was eventually told, with the show revealing she was once one of the smartest Imperial cadets. Fooled by the Empire, she literally invented an Imperial superweapon called the Duchess.

Sabine is a skilled warrior and tactician, and she understandably became the Ghost crew’s weapons expert. Even in Ahsoka, she became Ahsoka Tano’s go-to when it came to figuring out how to activate Morgan Elsbeth’s starmap.

Sabine’s intelligence is further demonstrated by the fact she is a polyglot, able to speak multiple languages, includes basic, Aqualish, Rodian, Aurebesh, and likely Mando’a.

We’ve Completely Underestimated How Powerful Sabine Has Become

With the events of Ahsoka, audiences have learned that not only has Sabine been studying as a Jedi under the leadership of Ahsoka Tano, but she is now able to tap into and use the Force. This makes her not only an intellectual threat, but also a combat threat, and now she can also use the Force.

Other Star Wars characters are extremely intelligent, but few compare to Sabine’s all-around skill level. No matter what situation comes her way, Sabine will be well-equipped to handle it because of the breadth of her knowledge.

While Sabine may be a bit more closed off than other characters, she still feels deeply, something that will help her grow more powerful as she continues learning the ways of the Force. Her natural intelligence means she may well be one of the smartest Jedi in the history of Star Wars.
