James Gunn Has Addressed The Robin Appearing In The Batman 2 Rumor
Following the original rumor, James Gunn took to Threads to debunk the report about Robin showing up in The Batman 2, sharing the following:
“Guys please stop believing this nonsense. I think six of us have read the script. No one knows anything about the Batman 2.”

The Batman 2 is reportedly looking to introduce a very famous DC character in Matt Reeves’ Elseworlds-based franchise. Following the conclusion of 2022’s The Batman, Robert Pattinson is getting closer to finally reprising the role of the Dark Knight, as The Batman 2 filming will officially start next year.
With a release date set for October 2027, it will have been half a decade by the time that the DC sequel releases in theaters. While The Batman 2 story is still shrouded in secrecy, a new report may have shed some light on what fans could expect in the highly anticipated DC sequel.
In the latest newsletter from The InSneider, the character of Robin is reportedly set to make his debut in Reeves’ The Batman 2. Robin is part of the script that was completed by Reeves and Mattson Tomlin. The specific Robin that is supposedly being used in the 2027 installment was not mentioned.
The report also mentions that DC Studios is thrilled with The Batman 2 script, with one of their sources describing it as a “big swing” for the franchise. At the time of this story’s publication, there had been no confirmation from Reeves, James Gunn, or DC Studios about Robin being in The Batman 2.
What The Batman 2’s Robin Report Means
If it is true that The Batman 2 will feature Robin, it will be the first time since 1997’s Batman & Robin that the Boy Wonder is featured on the big screen in live-action. It’s key to remember that Pattinson has been open about seeing Robin in The Batman franchise, and he may finally be getting his sidekick, if the report is accurate.
Having Dick Grayson enter The Batman universe through Reeves’ upcoming sequel is also an exciting prospect, as the filmmaker could end up reimaging Robin that would fit this specific take on the Batman mythology. For now, time will tell if DC Studios confirms whether the sidekick is actually showing up in The Batman 2.
Our Take On The Batman 2’s Robin Report
If Robin ends up being part of The Batman 2, it’ll be exciting to finally see a Batman movie franchise attempt to bring the iconic sidekick back to the big screen, given how Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy stayed away from the Bat-Family. It also raises the question about who The Batman 2 villain could be, if Robin is meant to be included in the 2027 sequel.
With Gunn’s DC Universe franchise also looking to focus on the Bat-Family in The Brave and The Bold, it will be a nice parallel to whatever may be the path for Robin, should this turn out to be true. Hopefully, the rumored role in The Batman 2 will get addressed sooner rather than later.
