I Know What You Did Last Summer has pᴀssed a major box office milestone. The legacy sequel, which features the return of original characters Ray Bronson (Freddie Prinze Jr.) and Julie James (Jennifer Love Hewitt) alongside a new group of young stars, is the fourth feature-length installment in the long-running slasher franchise, which kicked off in 1997.
Although critics’ I Know What You Did Last Summer reviews were largely negative, earning the movie a Rotten score of 36% on Rotten Tomatoes, audiences were kinder to the movie, giving it a Fresh score of 68% on the platform’s Popcornmeter.
Per The Numbers, I Know What You Did Last Summer has hit a cumulative global box office gross of $60.02 million by the end of its third full week in theaters. This comprises $30.6 million from domestic theaters and an additional $29.4 million from international markets.
This makes I Know What You Did Last Summer both the 32nd movie of 2025 to pᴀss the $60 million global milestone and the fifth 2025 horror movie to do so, behind The Monkey ($68.9 million), 28 Years Later ($150.4 million), Final Destination Bloodlines ($285.3 million), and Sinners ($365.9 million).
What This Means For I Know What You Did Last Summer
This box office milestone is impressive for the I Know What You Did Last Summer release, though it remains firmly in the middle of the box office ranking of the three theatrical installments in the franchise. However, it has an ace up its sleeve in the form of unprecedented international performance.
Below, see how the legacy sequel compares to the box office performances of the previous I Know What You Did Last Summer movies that were released in theaters:
тιтle |
Domestic |
International |

I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025) |

While I Know What You Did Last Summer‘s overall gross is less than half of the original movie at the time of writing, both at the domestic box office and worldwide, the fact that its international numbers are almost exactly equal to its domestic haul gives it a much better ratio.
While international grosses only made up 42.2% of the original movie’s worldwide total, they form 49% of the new movie’s. Should this ratio remain consistent, the legacy sequel will be able to climb up the charts at a faster rate than its predecessor, even though it seems unlikely to hit the same domestic total by the end of its run.
Our Take On The I Know What You Did Last Summer Milestone
In addition to the legacy sequel’s international grosses helping it close the gap between itself and the 1997 movie, they have most likely pushed it into the realm of profitability. The movie’s reported budget is only $18 million. While its exact break-even point is unknown, it’s likely somewhere around $45 million, a point that the movie has long since surpᴀssed.
This is very good news for the franchise. While it may not have yet turned enough of a profit for a follow-up, if the movie continues to climb it could potentially earn the possible sequel teased in the I Know What You Did Last Summer ending.
