The Friday the 13th franchise’s next Jason Voorhees has been announced. Jason is the iconic hockey masked serial killer who is the primary antagonist of the slasher franchise. Over the years, he has been played by a variety of actors, including Kane Hodder (the longest-running Jason, with four movies under his belt), Ted White, Ken Kirzinger, and Richard Brooker.
There has not been a Friday the 13th movie since the property was remade in 2009, due to a long-running legal battle over the rights to the screenplay for the original 1980 movie. In 2021, the domestic rights were awarded to original screenwriter Victor Miller.
One of the projects that Miller is involved in is an upcoming franchise called the Jason Universe. The Jason Universe kicks off on August 13 with a 13-minute short film тιтled Sweet Revenge that will debut on the franchise’s official YouTube channel.
ScreenRant has confirmed with a representative for the short that the role of Jason Voorhees in Sweet Revenge will be played by Schuyler White. White will become the first person to portray the iconic character in an official capacity since Derek Mears played the role in the 2009 remake.
However, he is not the first to have been cast in the role since 2009. In July, Callum Vinson was cast as young Jason in the upcoming A24 prequel series Crystal Lake.
