Chris Pratt Isn’t The Most Exciting Part Of His New Sci-Fi Movie, This $2 Billion Star Is

Mercy is the upcoming sci-fi feature starring Guardians of the Galaxy’s Chris Pratt, though the movie actually has some other interesting credits that may be more exciting. The film is helmed by Night Watch’s Timur Bekmambetov, and follows a futuristic detective who must prove his innocence after being falsely accused of a serious crime. Pratt has already directed plenty of praise towards this upcoming project.

Mercy also stars Rebecca Ferguson in an undisclosed role, but the film’s crew have frequently teased that her character will play an important role in the story. The supporting cast includes Annabelle Wallis, Kali Reis, and Rafi Gavron. The screenplay was written by Marco van Belle, and the film will be released by Amazon MGM Studios.

Rebecca Ferguson’s Sci-Fi Return Makes Mercy A Lot More Intriguing

Mercy sounds like a fascinating project, and while Pratt’s involvement will undoubtedly spark some discussions and serve as a focal point of the marketing, it’s Ferguson’s return to the sci-fi genre that really sounds promising. Pratt has appeared in multiple sci-fi movies over the past few years, from The Tomorrow War to The Electric State, and doesn’t exactly have the best track record.

Ferguson, however, has a much better history with the genre. Her recent performances in Silo and Dune represent some of the actor’s best work, and it’ll be interesting to see how she applies this genre-driven storytelling to a more grounded, human-led story in Mercy. The project seems reminiscent of her role in Reminiscence, which is a hidden gem of Ferguson’s filmography.

Although Pratt has found mᴀssive success with franchises like Guardians of the Galaxy and Jurᴀssic World, it’s been a while since audiences have seen him in a smaller-scale sci-fi project. The first thing that comes to mind is Pᴀssengers, but even that was ultimately let down by an underwhelming script. Thankfully, the writers behind Mercy have a much stronger track record.

This instills a lot of potential into the project; it’s not only a potential return to form for Pratt, but also the opportunity to continue an ongoing sci-fi trend for Ferguson. She clearly feels very comfortable in this world, and she always brings a very effective blend of grounded, human drama and genre-driven theater to her sci-fi roles.

Ultimately, it’s still too early to tell whether Mercy is going to be a success, but it definitely has all the ingredients you’d expect from a great sci-fi movie. The project already has a talented crew, an intriguing concept, and two lead actors who are extremely comfortable with the sci-fi genre. This is a movie that has been set up for success, and hopefully it will fulfill that idea.
