Anne Hathaway has proven to be one of the greatest actresses of her generation. She rose to fame in the Disney comedy, The Princess Diaries (2001), before taking on more serious roles in Brokeback Mountain (2005) and The Devil Wears Prada (2006). However, it was her powerful performance as a recovering addict in Rachel Getting Married (2008) that earned her first Oscar nod.
She continued to star in comedies, such as Get Smart (2008) and several rom-coms, including Bride Wars (2009), Valentine’s Day, and Love & Other Drugs (both 2010). In 2012, she starred as Selina Kyle/Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises and played Fantine, a Sєx worker dying of tuberculosis, in the musical Les Misérables, winning an Academy Award for the latter.
Hathaway reunited with Christopher Nolan for Interstellar (2014), and will once again for The Odyssey (2026), and continued to showcase her versatility in the comedy The Intern (2015), the heist movie Ocean’s 8 (2018), and the romantic comedy The Idea of You (2024). However, it’s Hathaway’s sleeper hit from six years ago that’s currently surging on streaming.
The Hustle Surges On Amazon Prime
The Hustle (2019) is surging on Amazon Prime six years after its original release. A female-led remake of the 1988 film Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, which itself was a remake of the 1964 film Bedtime Story, the 2019 comedy stars Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson as two con women who team up to swindle a wealthy internet millionaire.
In addition to Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson, its cast also includes Alex Sharp (3 Body Problem), Dean Norris (Breaking Bad), Timothy Simons (Veep), Ingrid Oliver (Doctor Who), Nicholas Woodeson, two-time Emmy nominee Rob Delaney (Catastrophe, Dying for Sєx), character actor Tim Blake Nelson, and Casper Christensen.
Now, six years after its release, Anne Hathaway’s sleeper hit is surging on streaming. The Hustle ranks 10th on Amazon Prime’s Top 10 movies in the United States for today, August 7. It ranks below The Pickup, War of the Worlds (2025), Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, Uncharted, Wicked, Heads of State, Sabotage, Hidden Figures, and The Accountant 2.
The Hustle is also streaming for free on Pluto TV, The Roku Channel, and Tubi.
Our Take On The Hustle’s Streaming Success
The Hustle received terrible reviews at the time of its release, indicated by its 13% and 44% scores on Rotten Tomatoes. Many criticized the gender-swapped remake for offering little more than its female-centric spin. Though there was praise for Hathaway and Wilson’s performances, some felt the leads would have worked better as a comedy duo in a different context.
Despite the bad reviews, The Hustle became a sleeper hit, making nearly $100 million at the box office against its $20 million budget. There’s something to be said about Hathaway and Wilson, who are perfectly cast as a seductive Brit and a fun-loving Australian, respectively. The mismatched duo was enough to make The Hustle a sleeper hit in 2019 and continues to drive its resurgence on streaming today.
