Thanos’ MCU Return Chances Get New Update From Marvel Star Josh Brolin

Thanos‘ chances of returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the future have received a new hopeful update. The Mad тιтan was the main villain of Marvel’s Infinity Saga. With Thanos’ presence being felt even when he was not onscreen or only appearing in cameos, that was dialed up to eleven in two of the MCU’s best movies.

Avengers: Infinity War was essentially Thanos’ movie, with Avengers: Endgame seeing the heroes defeat him after losing the first time. Now, Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom is the main threat the heroes will face in the MCU’s upcoming Avengers movies. While Thanos is ᴅᴇᴀᴅ, Marvel has already brought him back through time travel, and more methods exist for another return.

On the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Josh Brolin revealed he would gladly come back as Thanos if Marvel asked him to return.

The actor has a great relationship with the Russo Brothers, the directors of the next two Avengers movies, and Downey. Brolin revealed that, were he asked to reprise his Thanos role in the MCU, he would say, “I’ll be there tomorrow.” At this point, Brolin is not confirmed for Avengers: Doomsday‘s cast, but surprises could always happen.

“I’ve said it, ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool 2, I’m glad it was one experience. The Thanos thing, if they called me in London right now and said, ‘Let’s do this,’ I’d be like, ‘I’ll be there tomorrow.’

Of course, they’re going to come up with something really fun. And I mean, who knows? Who knows? That was a ten-year building kind of thing. That was its own kind of book-ended deal. And I don’t know what they’re going to do, but I’m sure it’ll be interesting.”

What Josh Brolin’s New Update About Thanos’ MCU Return Chances Means

While Josh Brolin has seemingly not been asked to return as Thanos in the MCU, the actor’s comments make it clear that if the opportunity to do so came knocking, he would be there in a heartbeat. Thanos is easily the best villain the MCU has had thus far, and while Doctor Doom now fulfills his role, the two could co-exist.

That is because Thanos is part of a key moment in the 2015 Secret Wars comics that inspire 2027’s Avengers: Secret Wars. In that event, Doctor Doom gets a power boost, becoming God Emperor Doom, and creates Battleworld, a patchwork planet made up of different locations from across the multiverse. Doctor Doom and Thanos then cross paths.

When confronted by Thanos, Doctor Doom easily rips the Mad тιтan’s spine out of his body. Given how Brolin is open to coming back as Thanos and has a great relationship with the Russo Brothers, perhaps Marvel could make that event happen in Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars. Between animated and live-action projects, the MCU’s Thanos has died multiple times.

The multiverse will play a huge role in the next two Avengers movies, which will be the events that end the MCU’s Multiverse Saga. As such, it is within the realm of possibility that Marvel could pull a multiverse version of Thanos into the Avengers movies. If Doctor Doom were to kill Thanos, Downey’s villain would be feared right away.

With Brolin’s new Thanos return comments, that could very well happen. Avengers: Doomsday is currently filming, with plenty of time for the actor to still be called by the Russos. If that does not happen, Thanos could always return a year later, in Avengers: Secret Wars. With Brolin open to coming back, Thanos‘ MCU return chances look good.
