George Clooney’s New Netflix Movie Will Make You Remember One Name As It Readies For Award Season

Netflix drops the first teaser trailer for Jay Kelly, starring George Clooney as the тιтular spiraling celebrity who became famous for playing himself. Co-written and directed by Noah Baumbach, the Ocean’s Eleven actor is joined by an all-star cast, featuring Adam Sandler, Laura Dern, and Billy Crudup.

Jay Kelly follows Jay and his manager, Ron (Sandler), as they travel across Europe together while facing the consequences of their past actions and reflecting on their legacies and important relationships in life. The movie will premiere at the Venice Film Festival before coming to select theaters on Nov. 14, 2025, and to the streaming service on Dec. 5.

Now, Netflix has unveiled the first teaser trailer, teasing Clooney’s movie star who can’t stop repeating his own name. Meanwhile, the trailer also features the original track, “Jay Kelly Theme” from composer Nicholas Britell. Check out the trailer below:

What This Means For Jay Kelly

Jay Kelly marks the second Netflix film from the four-time Oscar-nominated filmmaker under his multi-year deal with the streamer. Previously, Baumbach adapted Don DeLillo’s novel White Noise for a feature film that stars Adam Driver, Don Cheadle, and Greta Gerwig, with whom he co-wrote Barbie‘s screenplay.

While White Noise generated some Oscar buzz, it didn’t receive any nominations. The fact that Netflix is opting Jay Kelly in for a limited theatrical release strongly indicates the streamer’s intention to campaign it for the Awards season, including potentially entering the movie as an Oscar contender.

The teaser trailer doesn’t spoil the plot details too much, but it offers a first look at the movie’s blend of humor and serious themes, hinting at Jay’s spiraling mentality with his obsessive repeтιтion of his name.

Jay Kelly‘s trailer is actually more sophisticated than it appears. On the surface, it may seem that Jay’s repeтιтion of his own name is part of an exhausting comedic effect, but a rewatch would reveal its deeper meaning. Jay Kelly is a movie star who has built a successful brand off his own name.

While it may seem glorious on the outside, his glamorous exterior does come at a personal cost. Those close to him work for him, and it almost seems that the character is on the verge of an idenтιтy crisis. Jay Kelly is a fascinating new movie from the White Noise director that examines later-in-life themes.
