The Brave and the Bold casting process gets a new update from James Gunn following new DC Universe rumors. One of the most highly anticipated projects from the DCU’s Chapter 1: “Gods and Monsters” is DC Studios’ Batman reboot, which will bring the Dark Knight into Gunn’s mᴀssive superhero franchise.
Set to focus on Bruce Wayne discovering the existence of his biological son, Damian Wayne, The Brave and the Bold has been in development since DC Studios’ original announcement in January 2023. The biggest question surrounding The Brave and The Bold is the Batman casting process, as fans are actively waiting to see who will suit up as the Caped Crusader.
With casting rumors constantly flying around online, a fan recently checked with Gunn on Threads if it was true that they are already casting the DCU’s Batman in the franchise. However, Gunn gave a very clear response to what is going on with The Brave and the Bold casting process. Check it out below:

Gunn simply stated, “Nope,” as there is no search for the DCU’s Batman as of right now. The Brave and the Bold is set to be directed by Andy Muschietti, but where it falls into the DCU’s Chapter 1: “Gods and Monsters” release schedule is unclear for the time being.
What James Gunn’s DCU Batman Casting Update Means
While it is unclear which specific Batman movie rumor recently gained traction about DC Studios currently looking for their Bruce Wayne, it’s crucial to remember that The Brave and the Bold doesn’t even have a finished script as of this writing. Gunn has made it clear that casting won’t begin for any DC Studios project until the screenplay is completed with a set vision in mind.
There is no way for The Brave and the Bold movie to be looking for an actor if they are still developing the story for the film, which could make it the biggest Batman film to date. With the Bat-Family reportedly going to be a factor, there are a lot of aspects to still figure out before they even begin casting.
Our Take On James Gunn’s DCU Batman Casting Update
Seeing Gunn set the record straight is always appreciated, given how the superhero genre has a tendency to have a lot of false narratives gain traction in the rumor department. While DC Studios’ Batman and Wonder Woman movies remain big priorities for the DCU, fans should let big films like those get their proper time to be worked out.
With Matt Reeves’ The Batman 2 movie also in the works, there will be a lot to look forward to with the Dark Knight in the coming years, both in and outside the DCU continuity. Hopefully, before 2025 is over, there will be more updates on The Brave and the Bold from Gunn and DC Studios.
