Spider-Man 4’s Rumored Villain & Fancasting Addressed By ATLA Star: “I’m Always Up For An Interesting Role”

As Spider-Man: Brand New Day films, a popular Marvel Cinematic Universe fan-casting choice responds to the desire to see him play one of Peter Parker’s famous villains. Peter Parker’s return to the MCU franchise is less than a year out, following the shocking Spider-Man: No Way Home ending all the way in 2021.

Principal pH๏τography began earlier this month, and set pH๏τos have revealed Holland in his costume for Spider-Man: Brand New Day. But the biggest question right now is who Peter’s next villain will be in the Phase 6 installment, which will be the final MCU film before Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.

ScreenRant’s own Liam Crowley recently caught up with Daniel Dae Kim for his new series, ʙuттerfly, and asked the actor if he had seen the fan-casting of him as Marvel’s Martin Li, a.k.a. Mister Negative, for Spider-Man: Brand New Day. It turns out Kim is well aware of his Mister Negative fan-casting, as he shared the following:

ScreenRant: I don’t know if you ever listened to any fancasts that happen on these websites, on these social accounts, but a lot of people want you to play Mr. Negative. Are you familiar with that at all?

Daniel Dae Kim: I heard something about that over the past six or seven months, and I saw that. I’ve seen that people want other Asian actors to play him as well, so I’m happy to be included in that conversation, but I haven’t heard anything.

ScreenRant: The fan art looks phenomenal. Yourself transformed with the white hair and everything, it would be pretty cool.

Daniel: It’s interesting. I’m always up for an interesting role and an interesting project.

Mister Negative’s most prominent media appearance was in Insomniac’s Spider-Man video games, where he was voiced by Stephen Oyoung. At the time of this story’s publication, Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios haven’t announced who the main antagonist in Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be.

While there is no confirmation if Mister Negative will be part of the Spider-Man: Brand New Day story, filming has only recently begun. The fact that Kim has heard about how fans want him to play Mister Negative is interesting, but whether or not he has actually been approached about playing Martin remains to be seen.

There have been some potential clues that Mister Negative could be a villain for Holland’s sequel, as recent Spider-Man: Brand New Day set pH๏τos featured a tank with potential ties to the Marvel foe. Even if Kim is not the one playing him, it’s possible that Mister Negative could be revealed at a later time during principal pH๏τography.

Despite hearing Kim’s interest in Mister Negative, it would be quite the surprise if he is actually playing the Marvel character in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Stlil, Marvel stars are famous (and sometimes infamous) for their secret-keeping. Regardless, with Jon Bernthal’s Punisher and Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, there will be a lot to look forward to with this film.

Even though details have remained very limited about Spider-Man: Brand New Day, more clues are likely to emerge in the coming weeks as filming continues. But for now, the world will have to wait and see if Mister Negative is in Spider-Man: Brand New Day at all.

ʙuттerfly premieres August 13 on Prime Video.
