Fantastic Four: First Steps Box Office Hits Major Global Milestone In Spite Of Week 2 Domestic Woes

The Fantastic Four: First Steps has hit a major milestone worldwide even though it has stumbled at the domestic box office. The new movie is the 37th feature-length installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and stars Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as the тιтular group of superheroes, who must protect Earth from Galactus (Ralph Ineson).

The Fantastic Four: First Steps reviews have earned it a Certified Fresh Rotten Tomatoes score of 86% with a Verified H๏τ audience score of 92%. However, this did not prevent the movie from stumbling hard at the box office during its sophomore weekend, falling 66% from its debut weekend in one of the MCU’s worst-ever week 2 drops.

Per Variety, as of Sunday morning, The Fantastic Four: First Steps is projected to conclude its second weekend in theaters by hitting a cumulative global box office total of $368 million. This makes it only the 12th movie of the year to surpᴀss the $350 million milestone in spite of its troubles in the domestic marketplace.

What This Means For The Fantastic Four: First Steps

By hitting this global box office milestone, The Fantastic Four: First Steps is beginning to climb the charts. In fact, in the span of just 10 days, it has already surpᴀssed the complete box office totals of the two lowest-grossing MCU movies in history, which are The Marvels ($199.7 million) and The Incredible Hulk ($265.6 million).

Even if it is hit with another troubling domestic drop in week 3, it seems set to have its global total continue climbing past the $400 million milestone and higher within a relatively short time.

Hitting the $400 million milestone alone would both land The Fantastic Four: First Steps in the Top 10 highest-grossing movies of 2025 (as the chart currently stands) and see it additionally outgross Captain America: The First Avenger ($370.6 million), Black Widow ($379.7 million), and Thunderbolts* ($382.4 million).

However, the fact that it has already hit a snag during its sophomore weekend at the domestic box office could indicate a potentially damaging slowdown. The reported budget of The Fantastic Four: First Steps is more than $200 million, which could place its estimated break-even point as high as $500 million.

It remains to be seen if it will be able to hit that milestone, though the fact that it has already surged past the $350 million benchmark could put it in a good position to do so.

Our Take On The Fantastic Four: First Steps Milestone

While its prospects are looking less sure in the wake of its domestic drop, if it can keep up its current global trajectory, The Fantastic Four: First Steps could still very well become the first MCU movie of 2025 to be an unalloyed success at the box office in the wake of the underperforming Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts*.
