While the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) tends to keep upcoming stories тιԍнтly under wraps, a recent social media post from Vin Diesel gives me hope for the future of the Guardians of the Galaxy. As much as Marvel Studios tries to avoid MCU spoilers, the monolithic machine contains so many moving parts that that goal is sometimes impossible.
And when many of the cast and crew are pᴀssionate about the characters and projects they are involved in, it makes sense that things slip through the cracks. But one recent slip-up has skyrocketed my hopes for the return of one of the greatest teams in the MCU.
Vin Diesel Has Teased Groot’s Return To The MCU
On July 23, 2025, Vin Diesel, the actor who voices Groot in the MCU, took to Instagram to share some thoughts and feelings about a recent project. While the original post has now been edited, the original text reads as follows:
“So much to be excited about… Finally finished the Groot sequel for our friends at Disney… The Arbor King! You all know the other films in process or upcoming, but something about the continuation of that beloved floral colossus just feels different.”

Now, it seems clear that Disney was not overly pleased about Vin Diesel revealing details before any official news about an upcoming Groot project has been announced, but the information is now out there, and it’s clear that something is in the works.
And with that reveal, there are several ways that this could be interpreted for the Guardians of the Galaxy team and their future in the MCU.
A Groot Return Makes A Guardians Of The Galaxy 3 Follow-Up Seem More Likely
The statement from Vin Diesel is not conclusive proof that there is another Guardians of the Galaxy movie, or a Groot standalone film, in the works, but it does provide hope for the character to continue in some format in the MCU.
Even this small insight is wonderful, because it means that the characters from the Guardians trilogy are not down and out, despite their initial saga ending and director-writer James Gunn moving on from the MCU.
Diesel’s post could relate to I Am Groot season 3, or some other project, but the fact that Groot is appearing at all in some future MCU project is a positive development for these characters. Whatever the case, the future is still uncertain, but it now seems slightly more likely.
It remains to be seen how exactly this announcement relates to upcoming stories, or when another Guardians of the Galaxy movie may arrive on the big screen, but Diesel returning to voice Groot for a mysterious sequel is at least a step in the right direction.
