2025 has been a great year for horror, especially when it comes to returning franchises or those that could launch new ones. Sinners has been at the forefront of most horror discussions thanks to how Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan’s vampire action movie put a fresh spin on an old idea. It did so well that Sinners’ sequel chances have been heavily debated.
Audiences have also been treated well by Danny Boyle and Alex Garland’s return to the 28 Days Later franchise. The new film, 28 Years Later, successfully continued on from the original movie and set up an exciting future, which already has a trilogy planned.
We’ve even seen Stephen King’s The Monkey get adapted, the I Know What You Did Last Summer franchise’s revival, and the return of M3GAN. Hollywood tried to use IP in Until Dawn, Wolf Man, and Clown in a Cornfield to launch franchises too. Standalone genre-bending horror movies like Heart Eyes, Drop, and Companion fell short before that could happen.
While there are more great 2025 horror movies still to come, New Line Cinema also revived a near $1 billion horror franchise recently. And after 14 years of waiting, the movie turned out to be the best in the entire franchise in a variety of ways.
Final Destination Bloodlines Is Now Streaming After A Franchise Best Performance In Theaters
The Movie Was A Huge Success
New Line Cinema released Final Destination Bloodlines in theaters this past May to a level of success and acclaim that is unprecedented for this franchise. The sixth movie in the series put life back in a property that was previously thought to be ᴅᴇᴀᴅ. If you missed it before, luckily, Final Destination Bloodlines is now streaming on HBO Max, as of August 1, 2025.
Although this is the sixth Final Destination movie, it is largely disconnected from the rest of the franchise. It follows Stefani and her family trying to survive Death’s plan after she has the same premonition that her grandmother did, which resulted in saving a lot of lives.
Even if you’ve never seen a movie in this series, you can still watch Final Destination Bloodlines on streaming and enjoy it for the ridiculous death scenes and a surprisingly emotional family story. The combination of entertainment and quality storytelling that directors Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein deliver is a big reason why the sixth entry in this franchise is Final Destination‘s best movie ever.

That is not just an opinion I agree with, but it’s undoubtedly the case in a variety of metrics. Final Destination Bloodlines has a 93% on Rotten Tomatoes with critics, as well as an 87% with audiences. Both of those are easily the highest in the franchise. The movie even earned a franchise-best Metacritic score of 73.
All of the positive reception directly led to Final Destination Bloodlines making a killing at the box office. It set franchise records for the opening weekend domestically ($51 million), domestic total ($138 million), international total ($147 million), and worldwide total ($285 million). It has the 12th highest domestic and worldwide totals for any 2025 movie, which is incredibly impressive.
Now, Final Destination Bloodlines is poised to have another wave of success on streaming. If you’re looking for a horror movie to stream that can deliver kills you’ve never seen before, thrills, and a solid story, head over to HBO Max now to check it out.
