“Better, Stronger, Bolder”: James Bond 26 Story Direction Teased By Writer Steven Knight

Excitement continues to build around Bond 26, the first James Bond film in the franchise, following Amazon’s purchase of MGM in 2022. Previously, it was announced that Dune’s Denis Villeneuve would oversee the project, with David Heyman and Amy Pascal producing. Recently, it was revealed that Steven Knight will be writing James Bond 26.

Speaking on BBC Radio, Steven Knight addressed the recent announcement, expressing his enthusiasm for the James Bond franchise. Knight said, “It has always been on my bucket list,” as he has been a big fan of the films for many years. He also shared his vision for the new movie, teasing Bond 26’s story direction. Check out Knight’s statement below:

It has always been on my bucket list and it’s fantastic to be invited to do it – I can’t wait to get started. I’m hoping that, being a Bond fan for so many years, it will be imbued into me and I will be able to produce something that’s the same but different, and better, stronger and bolder.

The search for the next Bond actor remains a topic of intense rumor and debate, with Henry Cavill and Aaron Taylor-Johnson reportedly considered for the role in the past, although nothing has been officially confirmed. When asked about who would portray Bond, Knight responded, “That is a very, very good question, and one I can’t give you the answer to.”

What Steven Knight’s Comments Mean For Bond 26

Knight Might Take James Bond In A New Direction

Knight’s admission that writing Bond 26 has been a lifelong ambition signals a significant creative shift for the franchise, introducing a new perspective. His mention of creating something better, stronger and bolder” hints at a possible idea for Knight to evolve the Bond series while respecting its legacy, blending classic elements of the James Bond franchise with new ideas.

Furthermore, Knight’s answer to who will become the new 007 is rather interesting. Previously, Daniel Craig held the James Bond тιтle for five Bond films before stepping down in 2021. While Knight stated that he “can’t give you the answer” as to who will replace Craig, he didn’t elaborate on his reason why, leading to speculation about potential casting confirmations.

Our Take On Bond 26’s Teased Story Direction

Steven Knight Might Go Down The Historical Route

With Knight now attached as writer and Denis Villeneuve set to direct, Bond 26 is shaping up to be an exciting film. Knight is best known for Peaky Blinders, SAS Rogue Heroes, and Taboo, showcasing a strong skill in crafting historical dramas. As a result, Knight’s “better, stronger, bolder” vision might take the franchise down an unexplored historical route.

Nevertheless, whatever Steven Knight comes up with is likely to be great, especially considering it’s been on his bucket list.

James Bond was originally created during the Cold War, and his character’s relevance has been dwindling as the franchise has reached the modern era. Therefore, Bond 26 could be taken back in time under this new teased story direction. Nevertheless, whatever Steven Knight comes up with is likely to be great, especially considering it’s been on his bucket list.
