New Hunger Games Prequel Movie Set PH๏τos Reveal Full Look At Haymitch’s Flowery Arena & Tribute Costumes

Behind-the-scenes pH๏τos from The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping set offer a first look at the flowery arena and tribute costumes. Taking place around the 50th Hunger Games, the upcoming Hunger Games prequel revolves around young Haymitch Abernathy’s experience as a tribute and the sole winner of the Second Quarter Quell.

Filming began in July in Somiedo Natural Park, Asturias, Spain; Piedrafita de Babia, Castile and León; Valle de Lago; and Montegrande Beech Forest.

Now, Spanish outlet La Nueva España has shared a new set of pH๏τos from Somiedo, showcasing the Cornucopia and tribute costumes. The tributes are wearing peaceful white capes with colors underneath to show their districts. Similar to the ethereal style, the arena features flower-lined spokes pointing between the tributes to the central structure. Tributes could be seen fighting each other as the camera rolled.

In addition to the scene being filmed, the set pH๏τos also look at the lush landscape of the National Park and the production preparation booths, construction, and trailers.

What This Means For Sunrise On The Reaping

Sunrise On The Reaping Has The Most Beautiful But ᴅᴇᴀᴅly Arena

Sunrise on the Reaping‘s filming is expected to continue through December. The Second Quarter Quell features 48 tributes instead of 24 in the usual game. In the book, the 50th Hunger Games’ arena was described as visually beautiful but ᴅᴇᴀᴅly, with everything laced with poison and a complex computer system underneath.

The set pH๏τos tease an ethereal and almost fairy-tale-like arena, decorated with flower petals, which is in line with the aesthetic and vibes. In the book, tributes wear long-sleeved shirts, pants, and boots, with districts being distinguished by their unique colors. The revealed costume designs match the rough description in the book, but further push the tribute outfits to match the beautiful but ᴅᴇᴀᴅly vibe.

Our Take On Sunrise On The Reaping’s Arena And Designs

It Makes The Game Even Darker

The flowery arena and tribute costumes in Sunrise on the Reaping mark a sharp pivot from the previous designs. The original Hunger Games series and The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes feature more authoritative arenas that serve to intimidate and overwhelm the tributes. However, the approach in the new prequel is very different.

Tributes are wearing white capes instead of suits or their own clothes. As they fight each other, blood will stain, and in turn, the winner will be the one who’s covered in others’ blood. The concept is very intriguing. While the tributes and arena will likely look different with visual effects, it seems that Sunrise on the Reaping is playing into the idea of illusion and the dark truth underneath.
