The Conjuring: Last Rites Trailer Reveals Annabelle’s Return & First Demon The Warrens Ever Fought

The Conjuring: Last Rites will be haunting theaters soon, and a trailer just released teases the return of a major villain and a crucial event in the past of the main characters. Last Rites will follow Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga’s Ed and Lorraine Warren investigating a demon presence in a family’s home.

The Conjuring: Last Rites is the fourth installment in the main Conjuring franchise (there are also three Annabelle spinoff movies) and is planned to be the final movie. The film is set for release this fall on September 5, 2024.

Now, Warner Bros. has released the trailer for The Conjuring: Last Rites. The trailer begins by establishing Last Rites’ 1986 setting, where Ed and Lorraine are investigating the case of a new family who are experiencing a supernatural event. As the couple visits the haunted family’s house, Lorraine identifies the enтιтy as a “demon.”

More specifically, Lorraine explains that this was the first demon that she and Ed ever encountered. This demon goes on to carry out terrifying acts, including breaking out of the glᴀss of a mirror to choke someone. More horrors happen throughout, including objects flying around, bloody teeth, and more.

What This Means For The Conjuring: Last Rites

Annabelle Is Back For This Film

Another key reveal comes towards the middle of the trailer, when Annabelle appears for a brief moment. Exactly how the evil doll factors into the story remains to be seen, and she could even be a figment of Ed’s imagination as she is shown in conjunction with fast cuts of the character losing it.

Nonetheless, Annabelle’s appearance in The Conjuring: Last Rites will be an intriguing story element for franchise fans. Even with varying critical reviews, the Annabelle movies have all been huge box office successes. As such, the character’s inclusion might end up being a big draw to Last Rites.

Another critical component of the trailer is its use of blood. At one point, someone’s bloody mouth is seen, with their teeth either falling out or, more likely, being pulled out. In one of the final sH๏τs, Lorraine is in a dark room literally flooding with blood. The Conjuring films have always had a level of gore, but this trailer suggests that Last Rites may up the stakes in that regard.

Our Take On The Conjuring: Last Rites Trailer

The Sequel Looks Genuinely Scary

The Conjuring: Last Rites trailer looks genuinely scary, and that is incredibly promising. Like the previous installments, it claims to be based on a real haunted story, and I could really feel the sense of supernaturally infused real-life horrors in this one. If the full film is as spine-chilling as the trailer, we’re in for a wild ride with The Conjuring: Last Rites.

Its genuine scares could also lead to big wins for the film at the box office. The franchise as a whole has done incredibly well, but this exciting return could just be the chance for The Conjuring: Last Rites to set a franchise record.
