James Gunn’s Superman Confirms Clark Was Right About 1 DC Icon

Warning! Spoilers for the Superman movie ahead! An ᴀssessment Superman once made about a particular member of the Justice League turned out to be right on the money in James Gunn’s latest movie. Superman didn’t just showcase the Man of Steel, but an entire world of heroes, including one that Clark once made an interesting observation about.

In Superman: Red and Blue #3’s story “Kilg%re City” by Michel Fiffe, the Justice League is in pursuit of Kilg%re, who has allied with an army of Manhunters. Two hostages are still in danger and the heroes begin working through what’s left of the villain’s forces to rescue them. During the battle, Clark speaks with his various League allies.

Superman Hawkgirl

Superman and Hawkgirl make their way inside of a citadel to find the hostages. Hawkgirl banters with Superman, mentioning how she can be mad about the situation enough for both of them. Superman asks Hawkgirl if she ever attended any anger management classes, only for Hawkgirl to reply that she didn’t want to lose her killer instinct.

Superman Knows Hawkgirl Has Some Anger Issues

An Interesting Observation in the Wake of the New Superman Movie

James Gunn’s Superman made it clear that it’s set in a world full of heroes. In addition to Superman, the movie features a team referred to as the ‘Justice Gang’. One of the team’s members is Hawkgirl, who, for the most part, is pretty chill. But in battle mode, Hawkgirl gets violent quickly and puts her mace to good use.

Hawkgirl really surprised some fans when she ended up killing the Boravian president. Then again, the Hawks do, historically, run H๏τ (especially the Thanagarian versions of them). It’s interesting to see this side of Hawkgirl, especially through the lens of this comic, which reveals that Kendra knows how angry she is and why she hangs onto it so dearly.

Hawkgirl’s Anger Drives Her as a Hero

Superman May Not Like it, But Hawkgirl is Fine with Her Anger

Different heroes have different means of keeping them going. Some fight for love or peace and some, like Hawkgirl, are driven by anger at the injustices of the world. Sure, it’s not how Superman would do things, which is why he’d discuss anger management with Kendra. But Hawkgirl is perfectly fine with the rage within her.

If anger keeps Hawkgirl’s killer instinct alive and ends up making her a better hero, who’s to say she should keep her temper under control? It might not be Superman’s bag, but Hawkgirl is just as good a hero and if she’s fine utilizing her rage, then more power to her.
