Warning: This post contains minor spoilers for Happy Gilmore 2.
Happy Gilmore 2 recently landed on Netflix, and the sequel to Adam Sandler’s beloved ‘90s comedy has been a major talking point over the past week. The movie follows the тιтular golfing champion as he emerges from retirement to bring down a team of so-called “Maxi Golfers,” whom he believes are ruining the integrity of the sport.
Throughout his career, Sandler has frequently cast his family in his own movies. The actor often produces his own projects through his production company, Happy Madison Productions, so he’s heavily involved in the casting process and takes this opportunity to have his real-life wife and children share the screen with him. This was no different in Happy Gilmore 2.
Sunny Sandler Plays Happy Gilmore’s Daughter, Vienna
Adam Sandler’s Youngest Daughter
Sunny Sandler has appeared in several of her father’s best movies over the past few years, including Grown Ups, Blended, and Hubie Halloween. In Happy Gilmore 2, she plays the daughter of the тιтular protagonist, whose tuition for ballet school is the final straw that brings him out of retirement after more than ten years.
There are plenty of returning characters in Happy Gilmore 2, but Vienna Gilmore is a new face who only appears in the sequel. However, she’s a key part of the story, and her relationship with Happy is such an effective way of demonstrating the film’s key themes of love, family, and sacrifice.
Sadie Sandler Plays Charlotte
Sandler’s Eldest Daughter Is A Critical AA Meeting Member
Adam Sandler’s eldest daughter, Sadie Sandler, also appears in Happy Gilmore 2 – but not as one of Happy’s children. She plays the character of Charlotte, one of the few members of Hal’s alcoholics’ anonymous meetings that Happy builds a good relationship with. It’s revealed at the end of Happy Gilmore 2 that she was an undercover FBI agent all along.
Although Adam and Sadie Sandler’s characters aren’t related in Happy Gilmore 2, the pair have a very touching moment in the film’s closing sequence in which Charlotte professes to Happy that he reminds her of her father. Charlotte’s father is never shown in the film, but it certainly feels like their dialogue is breaking the fourth wall here.
Adam Sandler’s Wife, Jackie Sandler, Plays Monica
The Dance Teacher
Adam Sandler and Jackie Sandler have been married for over 20 years, and the former always jumps at the opportunity to include his wife in his movies. She had a small role in 1999’s Big Daddy, and the pair have continued to collaborate ever since. Following Happy Gilmore 2, they have shared the screen over thirty times.
Sandler’s character, Monica, appears only briefly in Happy Gilmore 2, but she plays an important role. As Vienna’s dance teacher, she is the one to set the stakes for Happy’s primary goal by informing him of the Paris ballet school opportunity. That Adam Sandler hears from his real-life wife that he should invest in his real-life daughter only makes the moment a bit more poignant.
