Co-writer Tim Herlihy addresses the possibility of Happy Gilmore 3 following the sequel’s record-breaking debut on Netflix. During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter after the sequel’s record-breaking debut on Netflix, co-writer Tim Herlihy addressed the possibility of Happy Gilmore 3. Herlihy says that he and Adam Sandler haven’t discussed a third film, nor has he thought about it himself, though he wouldn’t rule it out completely, acknowledging that surprises can happen. Not between me and Adam. I can say we haven’t had one discussion about it. I haven’t even thought about it in the privacy of my own brain. I’m sure some people in the world are talking about it. Never say never, I guess. We said we’d never do Happy Gilmore 2, and it’s currently streaming on Netflix, so you never know.

However, Netflix is likely interested in the prospect considering Happy Gilmore 2‘s record-breaking debut. The sequel amᴀssed 46.7 million views within its first three days, marking the biggest debut ever for any Adam Sandler movie on Netflix and the largest opening weekend ever for a Netflix film in the United States.
There was a 29-year gap between the original movie in 1996 and the sequel in 2025, so it could be quite some time before a third movie makes progress. However, while the original was an immediate commercial success, it gained popularity by developing a cult following over the years. With the sequel being an instant smash hit on Netflix, development of a third movie might be fast-tracked.
