Fantastic Four: First Steps’ Global Box Office Surpᴀsses Disney’s Live-Action Oscar Winner In All-Time Charts

The Fantastic Four: First Steps‘ global box office surpᴀsses Disney’s live-action Oscar winner in the all-time charts. The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s reboot of The Fantastic Four skips the тιтular team’s origin story and is set in a retro-futuristic version of the 1960s, following The Fantastic Four as they defend the world from Galactus, a cosmic enтιтy that consumes planets.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps‘ cast includes Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm, and Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, making up the тιтular team. Julia Garner stars as the Silver Surfer alongside Sarah Niles, Mark Gatiss, Natasha Lyonne, Paul Walter Hauser, and Ralph Ineson as Galactus.

Now, in the five days since its theatrical release on July 25, The Fantastic Four: First Steps has grossed $227 million at the worldwide box office, surpᴀssing the 2021 live-action Cruella remake at $225 million, according to The Numbers. Fantastic Four will also soon surpᴀss another Disney movie from the year, the animated Encanto, at $230 million.

Cruella won an Oscar for Best Costume Design.

Right now, The Fantastic Four: First Steps‘ box office breaks down to $128 million domestically and $99 million internationally.

What The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ Box Office Means

It’s Much-Needed For The MCU

The Fantastic Four: First Steps provides some much-needed relief for the MCU, which has seen its box office decline in recent years with multiple disappointments. In just five days, First Steps has already made more than The Marvels ($206M), and more than half the total global gross of Black Widow ($379M), Eternals ($402M), and Captain America: Brave New World ($415M), and Thunderbolts ($382M).

The MCU’s reboot also rescues the very reputation of The Fantastic Four itself after Fox’s failed 2015 reboot, which bombed at the box office, grossing just $168 million worldwide with an estimated loss of $80–$100 million for the studio. First Steps has also already made more than half the total global gross of 2005’s Fantastic Four ($333M) and 2007’s Rise of the Silver Surfer ($301M).

Our Take On The Fantastic Four: First Steps

The Jury Is Still Out

While The Fantastic Four: First Steps is performing well in its first five days, as MCU movies tend to be front-heavy, it will have to continue performing well into its second and third weekends. With a budget of approximately $200 million, it will have to make $500 million at the box office just to break even.

Whether The Fantastic Four: First Steps has true staying power remains to be seen. For now, its box office looks promising, but the jury is still out.
