The trailer for Zootopia 2 shows sarcastic red fox Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman) and optimistic rabbit Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) having trouble adjusting to working together as police officers. The upcoming Zootopia 2 is the first feature-length follow-up to Disney’s billion-dollar 2016 animated movie, which takes place in a world populated with anthropomorphic animals.
Walt Disney Animation Studios has now unveiled the first full official trailer for Zootopia 2. The trailer opens with an extended scene of Nick and Judy attending a group therapy session enтιтled “Partners in Crisis” after one week on the job. Although Judy pretends like everything is fine, the therapist is able to read them both like a book.
The trailer then shows them being given a high-stakes mission to track down a snake. If they don’t accomplish their goal, they will be split up as partners. However, their mission gets complicated by the fact that they are still somewhat at odds, in addition to the snake in question seeming to have good intentions.

What This Means For Zootopia 2
It Follows The Original Movie Closely
Ultimately, the new Zootopia 2 trailer seems to show that the sequel will have roughly the same narrative arc as the original movie. That installment saw Judy racing to complete a high-stakes mission in order to avoid being fired after becoming the first rabbit in the Zootopia Police Department, which forces her to learn how to work with Nick.
When he is originally introduced, Nick is a con artist, but he is revealed to have a heart of gold.
Evidently, these lessons have not entirely stuck. However, the trailer does show that they have made some progress, both in general predator-prey relations and in their own partnership. Instead of the duo genuinely distrusting one another, it seems that Nick is lovingly poking fun at Judy to annoy her, which is a very different dynamic.
The fact that the anticipated 2025 movie continues the character arc of the original installment does make some sense in the universe, as well. Although almost a decade has pᴀssed since the premiere of Zootopia, considerably less time has pᴀssed in the story, so the characters have had less of a chance to grow.
Our Take On The Zootopia 2 Trailer
The Sequel Could Have More Up Its Sleeve
The fact that the character arcs seem similar to the original movie could indicate that Zootopia 2 might be a retread of the 2016 тιтle, a possibility that is underscored by the return of certain characters who were at the center of comic moments in the previous installment, including the mouse mafia family and a sloth.
However, the trailer shows that Zootopia 2 has more up its sleeve, both in terms of the humor it mines from the animal characters and its ability to complicate the dynamic between Nick and Judy. The snake may be the lynchpin of this latter element, if the duo disagrees about how to handle the situation after learning its true motives.
