Mortal Kombat 2 Has Turned A Powerful Villain Into A Johnny Cage Ally

A major villain from the first movie seems to be working with Johnny Cage and the other Earthrealm champions in Mortal Kombat II. Even though the first film, which was released in 2021, was widely regarded as a disappointment, the trailer for Mortal Kombat II proves that fans have a lot to look forward to.

As is teased in the trailer, the story of Mortal Kombat II will primarily follow Johnny Cage, who gets recruited to fight for Earthrealm in a high-stakes tournament against Outworld. In addition to Johnny Cage, there will be many other new characters in Mortal Kombat II, such Kitana, Baraka, Quan Chi, and Shao Kahn, who is the emperor of Outworld.

Along with these new fighters, some characters who died in the first film will return in Mortal Kombat II. The trailer teases a fight between Scorpion and Bi-Han, even though the latter was killed at the end of the first film, as well as the return of Kano. Interestingly, even though he betrayed Earthrealm in the first movie, Kano seems to be working with Johnny Cage and his allies in Mortal Kombat II.

Kano Looks To Be A Hero In Mortal Kombat 2

Will Kano Find Redemption In Mortal Kombat 2?

Even though he is typically portrayed as a villain in the Mortal Kombat video games, Kano trained with Earthrealm fighters like Sonya Blade, Jax Briggs, and Cole Young in the first movie. However, they definitely didn’t like or trust him, and he constantly bickered with the other characters in the film.

Eventually, Kano proved that they were right not to trust him, as he was convinced by Kabal to betray Earthrealm. Because of Kano’s betrayal, Shang Tsung and his Outworld warriors were able to infiltrate Raiden’s temple. However, things didn’t turn out so well for Kano, as he was killed by Sonya at the end of the 2021 movie.

Despite this, Kano will be revived in time for the tournament in Mortal Kombat II. It was already confirmed that he would return in the sequel, so his appearance in the trailer was not unexpected, but it is surprising that Kano appears to be aligned with Earthrealm once again in Mortal Kombat II.

At one point in the trailer, Kano seems to be working with Johnny Cage, Sonya Blade, and Cole Young. Then, near the end of the trailer, it appears that Kano and Johnny Cage are working together to try to defeat Noob Saibot in a fight in the Netherrealm. Considering he was quick to betray Earthrealm’s champions in the first movie, I was definitely not expecting him to work with them in Mortal Kombat II.

Instead, I thought Kano would be loyal to Outworld in the sequel. This doesn’t seem to be the case, and it’s actually possible that Mortal Kombat II will try to turn Kano into a proper good guy and ally to Earthrealm, which would be a major change from the games. Based on these teases in the trailer, I’m very curious to see exactly what Kano’s role will be in Mortal Kombat II.
