We’re about to see the Jedi Order reinvented in Star Wars: Visions season 3. We’re all used to the Jedi of the prequel era, but the Order has tended to morph and evolve to the galaxy’s needs. The Clone Wars weren’t even the first time the Jedi became warriors, as members of the Jedi Council have openly acknowledged.
“Our predecessors waged and won the Great Sith Wars,” Jedi Master Oppo Rancisis observed in Charles Soule’s Light of the Jedi. “There is endless precedent for this sort of thing.” In fact, there were occasions were the Jedi were so reduced in number that they needed to be reformed as warriors.
We’re about to see one version of that Jedi Order reform in the face of a Sith Empire.
The Ninth Jedi Introduced A Galaxy Where The Jedi Are Almost Extinct
Star Wars: Visions is an unusual anthology series of animated Star Wars stories that are unconstrained by canon. They allow some of the world’s foremost animation houses the opportunity to honor George Lucas by telling their own tales of Jedi, Sith, and rebels – and “The Ninth Jedi” was a standout.
“The Ninth Jedi” introduced us to a galaxy dominated by the Sith, where one reclusive Jedi Master named Margrave Juro attempted to reestablish the Order. He found a small group of Padawans to train, including Kara Zhima, daughter of a famous swordsmith who had managed to recreate lightsabers. She is the тιтular Ninth Jedi.
Created by the Japan-based animation studio Production IG and written and directed by Kenji Kamiyama, “The Ninth Jedi” was originally envisioned as something of a standalone. That’s set to change later this year, though, in Star Wars: Visions season 3.
Star Wars Is About To Return To The Ninth Jedi Galaxy
What would a Jedi Order look like if it had been literally built in the shadow of a Sith Empire? Star Wars: Visions season 3 is about to return to this distant time, in a sequel story called “The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope.”
Attendees at Star Wars Celebration were shown exclusive footage, teasing Jedi versus Sith action and discussion of a war before Kara was even born. No doubt Kara’s story will be woven into the fate of the galaxy itself, as Margrave Juro strives to reestablish the Jedi as a beacon of light.
Incredibly, this too will only be the beginning; Lucasfilm has confirmed they are working with Production IG on a new spinoff show, scheduled for release next year. The Ninth Jedi: A Star Wars Visions Presents miniseries will show just what the Jedi Order must become, if they are to cast aside the darkness of the Sith.
Star Wars: Visions season 3 will release on October 29, 2025.
