Masters Of The Universe Reboot Star Addresses Which Fans The Movie Is For

Alison Brie addresses who the new Masters of the Universe film is for. Brie plays Evil-Lyn, one of the lead characters in the new live-action superhero action-adventure film. Masters of the Universe is directed by Travis Knight and also features a leading cast including Idris Elba, Morena Baccarin, Nicholas Galitzine, James Purefoy, Jared Leto, and Camila Mendes.

The movie will follow the story of He-Man, a young man on Earth, who discovers that he is actually the prince of an alien planet. Upon making this discovery, he learns he must recover a magic sword in order to go home to protect his kingdom. The movie is in production, and expected to release on June 5, 2026.

In an interview with ScreenRant for her movie Together, Brie identifies the target audience for her new Masters of the Universe movie. According to the actor, this movie is really targeted at He-Man fans, appealing to both “the nostalgic audience that loved He-Man when they were kids” and “a new generation of He-Man fans.” Check out the full quote from Brie below:

I did Masters of the Universe, and I really feel like I shouldn’t say too much about that either. But I do think that is really fun, and I think it’s going to serve both the nostalgic audience that loved He-Man when they were kids and a new generation of He-Man fans.

What This Means For Masters Of The Universe

He-Man is where the Masters of the Universe franchise all began. In 1982, Mattel released the He-Man action figure and an accompanying toy line of in-universe figures. This would be followed by children’s books and comics, which would first establish the character’s main story.

The franchise’s first series would also heavily focus on He-Man with the animated show He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. As the тιтle indicates, the series would focus first and foremost on this original action figure character, but expand out to broaden the universe as well.

As such, it makes sense that this latest Masters of the Universe movie will focus primarily on He-Man. Galitzine will take on this character, giving him the chance to reinterpret the role for 21st century audiences. As per Brie’s description, it seems like the film presents a fun and enjoyable ride for both long-time fans and first-time viewers.

Our Take On This Masters Of The Universe Update

This Will Be A Good Move

This take on Masters of the Universe will truly bring the franchise back to its roots. There have been other recent interpretations of the story with the animated series Masters of the Universe: Revelation and Revolution, but it’s been years since a live-action version of He-Man has graced the big screen.

The focus on He-Man will in turn come with some added pressure for Galitzine. Though it did not receive great reviews, the 1987 version of Masters of the Universe with Dolph Lundgren as He-Man is an iconic part of the IP. Galitzine will have to live up to this version, but hopefully the strong team around him can help elevate him enough to do so.
