A new image for Glen Powell’s The Running Man has been unveiled. Based on Stephen King’s survival thriller of the same name, the upcoming movie adaptation sees Powell in a Squid Game-like plot, where he plays an ordinary man who enters a ᴅᴇᴀᴅly televised game to win money to save his family.
Slated to arrive in theaters on November 7, The Running Man is helmed by Baby Driver director Edgar Wright. Joining Powell in the cast are Lee Pace as Evan McCone, Josh Brolin as Dan Killian, Michael Cera as Elton, Katy O’Brian as Laughlin, Colman Domingo as Bobby Thompson, and many others.
Now, Empire has unveiled a new image from the movie, featuring Powell seemingly training for the compeтιтion. The actor can be seen running in front of a screen in a white suit, as opposed to the hooded jacket he wears in the game, which was previously featured in the official trailer. In the interview, Powell also talked about his role and what makes Ben Richards so compelling. He admitted that he identified with the role better, especially with Richards being an everyday guy, just trying to stay alive for his family. Read his comments below:
I just don’t identify with people with superpowers for the most part. I like the ordinary guy against extraordinary odds. The entire world is hunting this man, trying to kill him. Can he survive? Can he save his family? That’s a great, simple story.
What This Means For The Running Man
The Running Man’s First Image Teases A Pre-Game Test Phase
Powell was previously offered an undisclosed role in Jurᴀssic World Rebirth, but he turned it down and starred in the new Running Man instead. Powell’s breakdown of Ben Richards helps shed more light on why the actor turned down the Jurᴀssic Park reboot movie. He’s currently more invested in relatable circumstances, such as a man fighting for his family rather than facing dinosaurs.
The new image, which features Richards in a standard white suit, seems to tease another part of the movie. While The Running Man‘s first trailer sees him trying to survive endless attacks while wearing a casual-looking hooded jacket, the new image shows him running on what looks like a treadmill.
In the novel, Richards didn’t receive any training before entering the game. However, he did go through a testing phase for his physical and mental ability to determine his suitability for the show. The new image likely gives a first look at that phase.
