Sydney Sweeney is one of the biggest stars in Hollywood today, and she still has four exciting projects coming out this year. The best Sydney Sweeney movies and shows have tapped into the young star’s incredible presence, showing how much dynamic range she has. Much of this will be shown in the rest of the year.
Each of these upcoming projects is very different from the rest. Sweeney has already shown proficiency with drama and comedy, and she has recently moved into even greater popularity as a public figure. In addition to Sweeney’s new big American Eagle ad campaign, the actor has caught significant attention for her soap collaborations with Dr. Squatch.
More than just a Sєx symbol, however, she is also a very strong performer. With new projects in the works, Sweeney has shown a willingness for transformations in her appearance to suit the roles she takes on. A few of the upcoming films coming later this year will be the best look at that yet.

Americana
Sweeney’s Contemporary Western Should Be A Good Time
Sweeney stars alongside Paul Walter Hauser in Americana, a contemporary western directed by Tony Tost in his feature debut. The movie looks to have a strong wit and charm, even as it bills itself as a crime thriller about the characters fighting over a Native American artifact.
The new movie has shades of the Coen brothers and has already attracted several positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. With a strong cast that includes Sweeney’s Euphoria co-star Eric Dane, as well as some unique stars like adult film actor and VJ Simon Rex and pop sensation Halsey, Americana promises to be a good time.
All of this speaks to the film’s quality, but what might temper this is the film’s staggered release. It was filmed in 2022, and debuted at SXSW in 2023. It took another year from there to find worldwide distribution through Lionsgate, and seems to have sat on the shelf for the past year.
This does not mean that the movie won’t be good, but it is clear that there was little urgency in getting Americana released. While the film is likely to be an entertaining crime thriller with great performances from its leads, it does also seem fairly slight and forgettable. Hopefully, this one connects when it hits theaters on August 15.

Eden
The Upcoming Thriller Has An Incredible Cast
Ron Howard’s true story-based Eden looks like an incredible time at the movies. The film boasts one of the most exciting all-star casts, including Sweeney, Vanessa Kirby, and Ana de Armas, alongside Jude Law and Daniel Brühl. The trailers for the film show an exciting survival thriller.
Sweeney has already been praised in the film. Despite some bad reviews for Eden, many of them highlight how she steals every scene that she is in with her strong presence. While Sweeney is a strong performer, it is exciting to see how she will fare alongside other dramatic heavyweights like Kirby.
This film’s cast is expansive, and the trailers have teased a tense and thrilling adventure on an island. Groups form between the stranded characters, who wind up forging dramatic alliances that are sure to take dark turns by the film’s end.
Unfortunately, Ron Howard’s best movies show that the director’s track record isn’t perfect. For every Frost/Nixon in the director’s oeuvre, he also releases Hillbilly Elegy. While a compelling filmmaker, it is hard to know what to expect from each of his movies, and there are reasons to be wary of Eden.
The reviews haven’t been stellar, with Eden currently holding a 57% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The film’s staggered release, which has already played in theaters in Germany earlier this year, may also add to trepidation around its chances of success. Still, Eden looks worth seeing when it hits domestic screens on August 22.

Christy
Sydney Sweeney Finally Gets A Big Chance To Flex Her Dramatic Chops
Sydney Sweeney is one of the most beautiful people in Hollywood, which makes it easy to forget that she’s also a very strong and compelling performer. Shows like Euphoria feature Sweeney as a dramatic and complex force, outshining even the show’s formidable co-stars, including Zendaya.
On HBO, reviews for Reality helped to cement Sweeney as an actor to watch. The small, straightforward drama was built around Sweeney, and her emotional complexity is onscreen in almost every frame of the story. Taking a smaller approach like this allowed Sweeney to show off her chops.
The upcoming Christy Martin biopic, Christy, will be the biggest test yet of her dramatic ability. Sweeney has transformed into Christy Martin in new images from the film, and she will star as the real-life boxer later this year in a practically unrecognizable visage that should allow her talent to shine through.
The new movie will take place over several decades, chronicling the true story of Martin’s rise in the world of boxing in the 1990s. It will also explore the story of how her husband attempted to murder her in 2010.
Sweeney spoke about the process of playing Christy to W Magazine, where she showed great excitement for the work and the transformation that she was able to achieve:
I loved it… I came onboard to play Christy, and I had about three and a half months of training. I started eating. I weight-trained in the morning for an hour, kickboxed midday for about two hours, and then weight-trained again at night for an hour.
Directed by David Michôd, the film also stars Ben Foster and Katy O’Brian. Michôd has a good track record, but none of his films, including War Machine, Rover, and The King, have broken out in an especially big way. It remains to be seen how Christy will connect when it premieres at the Toronto International Film Festival in September.

The Housemaid
The Upcoming Thriller Could Be A Huge Hit
Domestic adult thrillers based on novels are a H๏τ commodity in Hollywood, and they often result in extremely entertaining times at the movies. Movies like The Girl on the Train and Gone Girl have often made their books even better, and there is reason to believe The Housemaid could do the same.
Directed by Paul Feig, who helmed the sultry comic thrills of A Simple Favor, The Housemaid adapts the Freida McFadden novel of the same name. Pairing Sweeney alongside Amanda Seyfried, the movie promises an entertaining time as Millie, a live-in housemaid, discovers some dark secrets within the home she cleans.
Sweeney is incredible at bringing both softness and intensity to her roles. The actor can play innocent and twisted alike, and is often at her best when she oscillates between the two. These features will surely be on display in The Housemaid, where she will play Millie, the тιтular housemaid.
The novel The Housemaid was released in 2022, and quickly went on to become an enormous hit. The book has even spawned a series, with The Housemaid’s Secret and The Housemaid is Watching releasing in 2023 and 2024 respectively. Lionsgate surely hopes that the film will also be able to be turned into a series.
The Housemaid could become one of the biggest hits of the year, especially with its perfect release window. The film will come out on December 25 in theaters, and hopes to find similar success to what Sweeney previously had in that window with Anyone But You.
With a cast that includes one of the biggest up-and-comers in Brandon Sklenar, there is great potential for The Housemaid to connect over the Christmas release window. Serving as excellent counterprogramming to Avatar: Fire and Ash, Sydney Sweeney‘s last movie this year could wind up being her best one of all.
