New Post-Apocalyptic Movie Based On The Boys Creator’s Cult Comic Announces First Stars

The upcoming adaptation of Garth Ennis’ Crossed has found its cast, with several breakthrough actors joining the highly anticipated project. The movie is based on the cult comic series of the same name, which follows a group of strangers who come together to escape a dangerous gang of infected humans.

Garth Ennis is the man behind The Boys comic series, which has been turned into one of the best superhero TV series in recent memory. Ennis is an acclaimed comics writer who’s worked on projects such as Preacher, Dangerous Habits, and even Marvel’s Punisher. Crossed will be Ennis’ next adaptation, and the newly-revealed cast proves that it’s going to be a very exciting one.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the lead roles of Stan and Cindy will be played by Devin Druid and Ash Santos, of 13 Reasons Why and American Horror Story, respectively. The villainous role of Horsecock has gone to Owen Harn, who broke onto the scene as Gabriel in Netflix’s Cobra Kai. The project is now in post-production after wrapping filming in Los Angeles.

What Crossed’s New Cast Means For The Project

The Movie’s Production Is Now Well Underway

THE ZOMBIES FROM CROSSED

While some audiences may be disappointed that Crossed‘s lead roles haven’t gone to more well-known actors, this is actually a great sign for the project. What makes Garth Ennis’ works so entertaining is how complex yet familiar his characters are, as he draws on frequent everyman tropes while making each of his figures wholly unique.

This sense of Crossed‘s protagonists being normal people may have been lost with a more famous cast, but it’s something that director Rob Jabbaz can hopefully make work with his relatively unknown ensemble. While a show like Preacher was very divisive because it didn’t always stay true to the spirit of Ennis’ original comics, it seems like Crossed is going down a more conventional road.

Our Take On Crossed’s Casting News

Avoiding An A-List Cast Was The Right Decision

Although it will still be a while before we see the results of Crossed‘s production, the announcement of the movie’s cast is a welcome sign that things are moving swiftly in the right direction. Jabbaz’s decision to cast relatively unknown actors in the lead roles is a refreshing one, likely taking a leaf out of The Boys‘ book, with names like Jack Quaid and Erin Moriarty really breaking through in that project.

Garth Ennis’ comics are very bold at times, and this has resulted in some polarizing on-screen adaptations, but Crossed‘s cast seems to indicate that it could be an exception.

Jabbaz’s previous work on The Sadness proves that he’s a very ambitious and talented filmmaker with a clear, distinct style, which is exactly what projects like Crossed need for the page-to-screen adaptation to work.
