Five Nights At Freddy’s 2 Animatronics Update Is A Huge Relief After First Movie’s 32% RT Score

The Five Nights at Freddy’s franchise has had one of the more exciting rises to success of any horror IP. The series originated as a 2014 indie video game created by Scott Cawthon. A sequel game was released shortly thereafter, and the games quickly took off to become widely successful.

Blumhouse jumped on the bandwagon in 2023, releasing a Five Nights at Freddy’s movie that primarily adapted content from the first game. Despite releasing the film in theaters and on streaming simultaneously, the movie was a mᴀssive box office hit. Making back its budget over tenfold, the slasher movie grossed $291.4 million worldwide on an estimated $20 million budget.

While this was a huge win for the franchise financially, Five Nights at Freddy‘s was not nearly as successful among critics. The film had a rotten 32% Tomatometer. This included a 5 out of 10-star review from ScreenRant‘s Mae Abdulbaki, who called it “mediocre horror.”

Blumhouse hopes to turn things around with the upcoming release of Five Nights At Freddy’s 2. The company just recently revealed a trailer at San Diego Comic-Con, which is full of game references, including Mike’s Freddy mask trick. But there is one key bit of information that really builds confidence in the horror sequel.

Five Nights At Freddy’s 2 Will Feature More Animatronic Action

This Means The Sequel Can Build Up The Franchise’s Typical Scares And Thrills

Speaking at the Five Nights at Freddy‘s 2 SDCC panel, where ScreenRant was in attendance, director Emma Tammi said, there’s so much more action in this one… with the animatronics.” Tammi did not specify exactly how that action would play out, but the Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 trailer begins to give a glimpse at what some of that action will look like.

This is great news for the video game adaptation sequel. The animatronics are by far the most defining feature of the Five Nights at Freddy’s game franchise, but some felt that they were underutilized in the first movie adaptation. Providing “more action” while focusing on these creepy figures will be a great way to stay true to the content that has captivated fans for years.

Part of this action will come from outside the main Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria. Already in the trailer, viewers can see that the animatronics have brought their scares to the streets, terrorizing more people. This will be a great way to increase the action between the normal human characters and the possessed animatronics, making Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 more promising.
