This Star Wars Actor Is “Not Allowed” To Speculate On His Character’s Return

An actor from Star Wars’ Mandalorian franchise has admitted they can’t talk about their potential return; does that mean they will return? As The Mandalorian gears up for its big screen debut with The Mandalorian and Grogu next year, there are still a lot of unanswered questions. Very few actors or characters have been confirmed for Star Wars’ theatrical return so far.

This includes supporting Mandalorian franchise players like Boba Fett, The Armorer, Bo-Katan Kryze, Carson Teva, and Cobb Vanth. The only characters we currently know for certain who will appear in the movie are Din Djarin, Grogu, Jabba the Hutt’s son, Rotta, and Star Wars Rebels alumnus Garazeb Orrelios.

As such, when ScreenRant‘s Joe Deckelmeier spoke to Timothy Olyphant about his upcoming Alien TV prequel, Alien: Earth, at San Diego Comic-Con, it was hard to resist asking the actor about his possible return to Star Wars. Olyphant was last seen as Cobb Vanth, Tatooine hamlet Mos Pelgo’s mayor and marshal, in The Book of Boba Fett, following his debut in The Mandalorian season 2.

ScreenRant: This one’s for Timothy. When do you think we’ll see Cobb Vanth again in The Mandalorian?

Timothy Olyphant: Joe, I appreciate that question. I’m not allowed to talk about that.

While Olyphant’s answer strategically sidesteps the question, it did make us wonder if he’ll have a role in The Mandalorian and Grogu or a different future Mandalorian-related property – Dave Filoni is working on a second New Republic-era movie, after all.

Timothy Olyphant’s Comment Seems To Suggest A Return Is In The Works

Olyphant’s non-answer does seem to imply that a return is in the works. Compare his response to Ming-Na Wen’s, for instance, who flat out told ScreenRant earlier this year that her character Fennec Shand would not be in The Mandalorian and Grogu, and it certainly seems as though Cobb Vanth is set to return to Star Wars. How or even when remains to be seen.

In The Book of Boba Fett, Vanth was gravely injured by bounty hunter Cad Bane, but one last sH๏τ in the show’s finale confirmed that Vanth was alive and healing in Fett’s private bacta tank. What might be next for the character?

We Need To See More Of Cobb Vanth

Olyphant was great in the role of Cobb Vanth. His dynamic with Pedro Pascal’s Din Djarin was so compelling; it was clear they respected one another, and Vanth held his own in Mando’s presence, even after he stopped wearing Fett’s Mandalorian armor. His appearance in The Book of Boba Fett was a welcome surprise, just as his hypothetical role in The Mandalorian and Grogu would be.

The galaxy could use more upstanding, protective men like him. As the New Republic and its allies gear up for another wave of Imperial pushback, every corner of the galaxy is at risk. With Din Djarin and Grogu working as independent bounty hunters in the service of the New Republic, there’s every chance they could come across Cobb Vanth in a future Mandalorian story.
