Reboot Movie Of ’80s Slasher Cult Horror Revealed In First Trailer

At San Diego Comic-Con, the first trailer for Silent Night, ᴅᴇᴀᴅly Night was revealed. The movie is based on a classic 1984 festive B-horror film about a young boy who witnesses his parents being murdered by Santa one night. But when Billy grows up, he puts on the Santa suit himself as he seeks revenge for those who have wronged him in his childhood.

The 2025 reboot film takes on a similar plot, but this time it is directed by Mike P. Nelson. The main character is played by Rohan Campbell, with a supporting cast that includes Ruby Modine, David Tomlinson, Mark Acheson, David Lawrence Brown, and Erik Athavale. It is set for release on December 11, 2025.

At SDCC, IGN revealed the first teaser trailer for Silent Night, ᴅᴇᴀᴅly Night. As Billy puts on the Santa suit, a deep-voiced narrator says, “In 1984, one film shocked audiences, was banned from theaters, and traumatized a generation” as one of Billy’s kills is revealed.

Advertising the film as a new and unrated version of the cult classic,” the Silent Night, ᴅᴇᴀᴅly Night trailer shows Billy killing people with axes, guns, crossbows, and more.

What This Means For Silent Night, ᴅᴇᴀᴅly Night

The Marketing Focuses On Connections To Other Films (And Its Predecessor)

David Howard Thornton's Art the Clown grits his teeth while standing in front of a ceiling fan in Terrifier 3

The trailer also advertises the fact that Silent Night, ᴅᴇᴀᴅly Night is from the same studio that brought audiences Terrifier 3 last year. That sequel film was a huge hit, making $90.3 million worldwide on an estimated $2 million budget.

Though it is based on an existing cult classic, the structure of Silent Night, ᴅᴇᴀᴅly Night is not entirely dissimilar to that of Terrifier 3. In fact, both are Christmastime-set slasher horror films where Santa is not as jolly as one would think. In Terrifier 3‘s case, Santa was really Art the Clown in disguise, but the comparison still holds.

The trailer clarifies that the new horror film’s marketing strategy will lean on the Terrifier 3 connection as well as remind audiences about the original cult classic. Silent Night, ᴅᴇᴀᴅly Night has set the bar high for itself, as it is already touting how scary the first film was. But the trailer shows snippets of enough kills to indicate it might give audiences what they are looking for.

Could This Win At The Box Office?

Silent Night, ᴅᴇᴀᴅly Night is being rebooted at the perfect time for audiences. B-horror movies are back right now, and they have shown that they can be huge successes, even with low budgets. This remake has a good sH๏τ at becoming the next low-budget slasher film to become a box office sensation.
