Netflix’s New 67% Korean Thriller With Squid Game Star Becomes Instant Global Hit Just Days After Release

Korean movies and television have been taking the world by storm, especially on Netflix. In the last decade or so, K-content has slowly become a prominent industry, especially since Bong Joon Ho’s historic Oscar wins for his thriller Parasite. That phenomenon has extended into the television sphere with Squid Game leading the way as it broke plenty of streaming records with all three seasons.

With international audiences investing more time in K-content, the thriller genre is one area where the industry has thrived. Whether it be a revenge quest like Glory or Oldboy, or erotic thrillers like The Handmaiden, there is always some suspense element that keeps any viewer intrigued worldwide. Now, Netflix has one thriller that’s instantly been dominating the streaming charts.

Wall To Wall Has Jumped Into Netflix’s Top 3 Charts In Less Than One Week

& It Stars A Key Squid Game Actor

Wall to Wall follows a struggling homeowner who becomes annoyed by the constant noise in his apartment. While attempting to recoup his financial losses, things take a turn when the noise pushes the protagonist to unravel secrets and encounters with violent neighbors.

The Wall to Wall cast is led by Kang Ha-neul, who recently had a major role as Dae-ho in Squid Game seasons 2 and 3. The Netflix thriller currently has a 67% Rotten Tomatoes score based on just 12 reviews from critics.

Now, according to Netflix’s Tudum, Wall to Wall has already surged into the top 10 streaming charts for non-English movies. While debuting in the third position in the week of July 14 to July 20, the Netflix thriller was able to generate 6,400,000 views. The movie was just behind the German movie Brick and the Dutch film Almost Out, as both kept their No. 1 and No. 2 spots in their second week.

Wall to Wall is also listed in the top 10 charts in 40 countries, including Honduras, Belgium, and South Korea. It was also the No. 1 movie in Vietnam.

Why Wall To Wall Has Become An Instant Netflix Hit

The Social Commentary Is Not Far Off From Squid Game & Parasite

There are plenty of factors that led to Wall to Wall surging on Netflix’s streaming charts. Firstly, Kang is a popular actor in Korea, and in the last year, he has been very much in demand.

Ahead of the Netflix thriller’s release, the actor already had a busy 2025 schedule, with Squid Game season 3, Streaming, and Tastefully Yours. All his projects have become major successes in one way or another, particularly with Yadang: The Snitch being the highest-grossing movie in Korea this year and Streaming just cracking Netflix’s charts a few weeks ago.

Additionally, the Korean thriller also contains social commentary similar to Squid Game and Parasite. In fact, Wall to Wall has been heavily compared to the historic Oscar-winning movie, as the story addresses social inequality and class conflicts within the thriller’s setting.

It wouldn’t be surprising if audiences were craving something as close to Parasite, which has a near-perfect 99% Rotten Tomatoes score. Wall to Wall may not be a masterpiece, but Kang’s thriller is a good-enough replacement.
