Sequel To 41-Year-Old Cult Comedy Finally Gets Its First Trailer

The first trailer for Spinal Tap II: The End Continues is finally here, giving a proper look at the highly anticipated sequel to This Is Spinal Tap. Screen Rant is at San Diego Comic-Con 2025, and while all kinds of exciting news is coming out of the convention each day, one of the most notable drops for comedy fans is the trailer for Spinal Tap II: The End Continues.

After years of development, Spinal Tap II: The End Continues‘ first trailer finally shows the band back together. The trailer sees Rob Reiner’s fictional documentarian Marty DiBergi reunite with the band, catching up years after they have broken up. The three members of Spinal Tap, Christopher Guest’s Nigel Tufnel, Michael McKean’s David St. Hubbins, and Harry Shearer’s Derek Smalls, all make appearances.

The Spinal Tap II: The End Continues trailer also shows off some major cameos, such as Paul McCartney, Elton John, and Questlove. The story will follow DiBergi’s documentary as it explores the lives of the aging rockstars, hoping to navigate their differences and bring them back together decades after the events of the first This Is Spinal Tap.

What The First Trailer Means For Spinal Tap II: The End Continues

Is It A Worthy Successor?

Spinal Tap II: The End Continues‘ first trailer shows that the sequel is a return to form for the franchise, despite it being decades since the original. The same dry humor and mockumentary style is present in the sequel, with the trailer even referencing some gags from the first This Is Spinal Tap film.

The amount of musical cameos seen in Spinal Tap II: The End Continues‘ first trailer is surprising. Paul McCartney, Elton John, and Questlove are all mᴀssive names, and many would have expected the comedy to keep these cameos as surprises for the final film. However, it is possible that the sequel has even more cameos than have been revealed, meaning that there could still be plenty to see when the film hits theaters.

Our Take On Spinal Tap II: The End Continues

It Turns Things Up To 11

While legacy sequels to comedy classics don’t always fare well, Spinal Tap II: The End Continues looks like it could be the exception. Almost every creative from the first film is returning for the sequel, including director and writer Rob Reiner. The trailer has a lot of laughs, so as long as there are some saved for the movie, it could be a hit.

Making the age of the rockers part of the film’s story is a great decision, as it avoids one of the biggest problems with many legacy sequels. Spinal Tap II: The End Continues could live up to its predecessor, and its San Diego Comic-Con 2025 trailer is a great start.
