Jurᴀssic World Rebirth Completely Changes Owen Grady’s Ending & Means Chris Pratt Must Return

Jurᴀssic World Rebirth, the latest entry in the long-running Jurᴀssic Park franchise, is continuing to act as one of 2025’s highest-grossing films, earning over $650 million, which, while not as big as some of the previous films in the Jurᴀssic World series, is an excellent start for this brand-new era of the franchise.

The most exciting thing about Rebirth was its brand-new cast, as the film was able to tell a story that, while faithful to the universe that had been previously set up, could explore previously unseen aspects of this world, which ultimately ended up being a new research station featuring some dinosaurs new to the Jurᴀssic franchise.

However, one of the biggest points of contention surrounding Rebirth was the way it handled the fallout of Jurᴀssic World Dominion, which ended with humans and dinosaurs finally learning to coexist, as the dinosaurs had spread throughout the entire world by that point.

The way that Rebirth handled that plot point was understandably controversial, but it could potentially lead to a very interesting character arc for Owen Grady, played by Chris Pratt, who was the de facto protagonist of the first three Jurᴀssic World movies.

Jurᴀssic World Rebirth’s Dinosaur Dying Storyline Is Tragic For Owen Grady

The Dinosaur That Owen Spent His Entire Trilogy Protecting May Be Gone

Rebirth showed that the vast majority of the returned dinosaurs were unable to adapt to the modern climate, leading to most of them dying off across the world, with only a small subset able to survive in very specific areas around the Earth’s equator that were similar to the environment of the Mesozoic era.

Velociraptors were alive during the late Cretaceous Epoch, which was the last era of the Mesozoic era, as well as the last era of the dinosaurs, as they went extinct soon after.

With that in mind, it seems fairly likely that Blue, the raptor from the first Jurᴀssic World movie that Owen had been taking care of, as well as her offspring Beta, had also been killed during this time, as they lived in the wilderness in an area pretty far from the equator.

Most of Owen’s journey throughout his whole trilogy was focused on keeping Blue safe, and her dying due to circumstances completely out of his control would be a very tragic turn for the character.

Notably, Dominion ended with Blue saying goodbye to Owen and living on her own, and it remains unknown if they ever reunited after the events of the movie. She was set free in the Sierra Nevada mountains, a range in California and Nevada, which, as per what is stated in Rebirth, would be pretty unsuitable for any dinosaurs.

While Blue and Beta’s deaths were never confirmed, as Rebirth was very focused on telling its own story, it seems like a pretty likely outcome. Most of Owen’s journey throughout his whole trilogy was focused on keeping Blue safe, and her dying due to circumstances completely out of his control would be a very tragic turn for the character.

However, considering the lengths the previous Jurᴀssic World movies went to in order to keep Blue alive, it is also very possible that she survived, and Owen’s potential role in sequels to Rebirth will still include Blue as a major player in his life, continuing to guide a lot of his decisions.

Chris Pratt’s Return After Jurᴀssic World Rebirth Can Fix Owen’s Story

Owen Would Have A Lot To Do If He Returned For Another Sequel

If Blue did indeed somehow survive, then there are multiple ways that Owen’s story could be continued in further movies. He could be looking for Blue and Beta in this new world, as they may have somehow managed to get somewhere where they could survive, and Owen needs to find out exactly where that is to reunite with them.

Another option would be that Owen knows where they are, but needs to find a way to keep them safe in the long-term, as the world is now very inhospitable for dinosaurs, and even if there is somewhere along the equator where they are relatively safe, it may not last long, and they could be in danger of going extinct again.

A story that could be even more interesting is that Blue is ᴅᴇᴀᴅ, but Beta has managed to survive, whether on her own or with Owen, which would make his story even more tragic, as he would have already lost one friend, and would definitely do everything in his power to keep the last reminder of her alive.

If both of them are ᴅᴇᴀᴅ, then there would still be a lot for Owen to do, as he would likely be pretty consumed by grief, which would be a very dark turn for a character who didn’t really have all that much depth when he was the protagonist of the series.

Seeing a completely different side of this character would be a breath of fresh air, and Chris Pratt, despite the criticisms of his acting in a lot of the projects he takes on, has proven himself to be a very capable performer in projects like the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, and this kind of return could be a chance for him to shine.

Jurᴀssic World Movies

Worldwide Box Office

Jurᴀssic World

$1.67 billion

Jurᴀssic World: Fallen Kingdom

$1.31 billion

Jurᴀssic World Dominion

$1.00 billion

Jurᴀssic World Rebirth

$656 million

Whatever ends up happening with Owen and Blue, Dominion‘s mᴀssive success means that Owen will undoubtedly return at some point down the line, similarly to how the original Jurᴀssic Park actors returned, and Jurᴀssic World Rebirth has already shown how this return could be well worth a bit of a wait.
