The streaming release date has been revealed for an A24 fantasy movie with a 75% Rotten Tomatoes score. Over the past 12 years, A24 has quickly become one of the most exciting movie studios that consistently releases bold and innovative stories in horror, science fiction, fantasy, and numerous other genres.
A24’s best movies range from Alex Garland’s science-fiction film Ex Machina to the more understated romantic drama in Celine Song’s Past Lives. With Everything Everywhere All at Once, A24 achieved significant critical and commercial success, making it their highest-grossing movie of all time and the winner of seven Academy Awards.
When it comes to fantasy, A24 released the Dev Patel-led movie The Green Knight in 2021, which received many positive reviews. Earlier this year, A24 released a different fantasy movie, and it will soon be available to stream.
The Legend Of Ochi Is Coming To HBO Max
It Is Directed By Isaiah Saxon
A24’s The Legend of Ochi will soon be streaming on HBO Max. The fantasy film is set in a world where the villagers fear and hunt a monkey-like species known as the ochi. However, when a girl named Yuri (Helena Zengel) finds a wounded baby ochi, she ventures into the wild and is determined to bring the creature home.
Reviews for the A24 fantasy movie were largely positive, with much of the praise revolving around its state-of-the-art puppetry, visual effects, and being a charming, family-friendly adventure. It now has a 75% Tomatometer score and 62% Popcornmeter score.
A24 has now shared that The Legend of Ochi will come to HBO Max on August 15. The film debuted with a limited theatrical release on April 18, followed by a wide release on April 25.
Our Take On The Legend Of Ochi Coming To Streaming
It Is A Movie Worth Watching (Or Rewatching)
While I did not enjoy The Legend of Ochi as much as I anticipated I would, I plan to revisit it after the streaming debut on HBO Max. In addition to Zengel, the film has an impressive cast that includes Stranger Things‘ Finn Wolfhard, Dune: Prophecy‘s Emily Watson, and Academy Award nominee Willem Dafoe.
While I have issues with the story and the pacing, the cast is excellent, with Dafoe giving a standout performance as a man consumed with hatred for the ochi. The baby ochi is incredibly cute and impressive, with the puppetry and visual effects being some of the best I have ever seen.
The Legend of Ochi is more so about the magical feeling it creates than about the plot, and with this in mind, it is a movie that should be seen for the first time or rewatched after it starts streaming on HBO Max.
