“It’s Sort Of Paused…”: The Community Movie Status Surprisingly Updated By Star

Actor Alison Brie, who rose to fame playing Annie Edison on the groundbreaking sitcom Community, provided a long-awaited but disappointing update about Community: The Movie. Die-hard fans of the series have waited years for the members of Greendale Community College’s wacky study group to reᴀssemble for a sequel film and to deliver on the promise based on the show’s iconic catchphrase, “six seasons and a movie.”

In ScreenRant’s exclusive interview with Brie about her and husband Dave Franco’s new horror film, Together, the actor gave a concerning update about the production for the upcoming Community movie. While the details are vague, she reveals that the movie has faced another delay, but that the cast is still committed to finishing it one day. Check out her comments below:

“I truly have nothing to say about the Community movie. It’s sort of paused, and we’re all — I know the cast is really rooting for it. We all love each other so much and would love to get back on set someday.”

What Alison Brie’s Update Means For The Community Movie

The Community Movie Has Experienced Another Setback

Based on Brie’s comments, it seems people will have to wait even longer for the Community film to see the light of day. Since Community ended its sixth and final season in 2015, fans have been waiting roughly ten years for the cast to reappear in a follow-up movie and continue their zany, dysfunctional stories at Greendale.

There have long been talks about whether a Community sequel will be made. However, filming for Community: The Movie was confirmed back in September 2024, giving high hopes to fans wanting to see this dream reunion come true. It’s unclear why the Community film’s production has stopped, but it is also unclear when it will continue.

Our Take On Alison Brie’s Comments On Community: The Movie

A Community Movie Delay Isn’t Surprising, But It Is Still Upsetting To Hear

Cooperative Calligraphy Community Season 2, Episode 8

Given the amount of time spent waiting and the current careers of Community‘s cast, it’s not a shocker that the show’s movie has hit another roadblock. Since the Community series finale, the show’s main cast has branched off to pursue their own creative endeavors, making it challenging to reunite everyone for a movie.

Donald Glover, in particular, has become one of the most prolific actors, writers, and musicians in the world, making it especially challenging for him to reprise his iconic role as Troy Barnes in the Community movie. Even the show’s creator, Dan Harmon, has become busier running the mega-hit TV show, Rick & Morty.

Brie’s starring role in Together probably made it even more difficult for filming to continue on Community: The Movie. It’s clear that Brie and her friends from Community are dying to finish and share this sequel movie with the world. How much longer fans have to wait remains to be seen.
