Jurᴀssic World Rebirth has been a huge success for the long-running franchise, with director Gareth Edwards bringing a whole new dimension to an otherwise tired string of sequels. The filmmaker clearly understands what makes this franchise so special, and Jurᴀssic World Rebirth has soared at the box office as a result.
Jurᴀssic World Rebirth also introduced many new characters and unfamiliar dinosaurs to the franchise, softly rebooting the series and drifting away from the underwhelming direction that movies like Fallen Kingdom and Dominion took. Sticking with these new characters is the best way for Jurᴀssic World to maintain its strong momentum, and there’s only one filmmaker who can reliably helm the next sequel.
Gareth Edwards Deserves To Direct Jurᴀssic World 5
The Filmmaker Did An Excellent Job With Jurᴀssic World Rebirth
Although Edwards is clearly a very talented filmmaker, the director has experienced a pretty unlucky streak when it comes to being involved with his movies’ sequels. Not only was he reportedly sidelined out of Rogue One due to studio interference, but he also never returned to the Godzilla franchise despite his 2014 movie being the one to reboot the whole Monsterverse saga.
Thankfully, Jurᴀssic World Rebirth has given him the perfect opportunity to finally get involved in a long-running, big-budget franchise for more than one installment. He would be the perfect director to lead the series into the future with Jurᴀssic World 5, and the critical success of Rebirth is a helpful step in the right direction.
Rebirth is arguably the best Jurᴀssic Park movie since The Lost World, taking everything that works about this dinosaur-fueled story and elevating it with sharp cinematography, developed characters, and staggering visual effects.
He clearly understands the wide scope and towering scale of the Jurᴀssic Park universe, and the way he was able to distinguish his movie from the underwhelming Jurᴀssic World sequels is exactly what the franchise needs.
Edwards has a very strong filmography so far, and is clearly very comfortable with these blockbuster franchises. Movies like Godzilla and The Creator prove just how well-suited he is for large-scale, VFX-heavy projects, and that’s exactly why Jurᴀssic World Rebirth works so well. It feels much less forced and artificial than Dominion and Fallen Kingdom, which lacked the depth and grandeur of Rebirth.
While there have been very few updates about Jurᴀssic World 5, the project is almost guaranteed to be on the cards following the success of Rebirth. The Jurᴀssic movies consistently perform well at the box office, and Edwards found a way to blend this commercial appeal with a more distinct, cinematic tone that also resonated strongly with critics. He should definitely be the future of this franchise.
