The Transformers and G.I. Joe crossover movie receives an uncertain update from one of its stars. The latest Transformers movie, 2023’s Rise of the Beasts, introduces Anthony Ramos as Noah Diaz, an ex-military electronics expert who, in 1994, joins forces with the Autobots and Maximals to protect a powerful relic called the Transwarp Key from the evil Terrorcons.
During Transformers: Rise of the Beasts‘ ending, Noah is invited to join a secret military organization known as G.I. Joe, seemingly setting up a crossover. A G.I. Joe and Transformers crossover movie is officially in development, with Chris Hemsworth reportedly in talks to star. However, its status remains uncertain for various reasons.
Speaking with ScreenRant‘s Liam Crowley ahead of The Bad Guys 2‘s release, Anthony Ramos shared an uncertain update on the status of the Transformers and G.I. Joe crossover movie. The star says he doesn’t know much about the crossover movie, citing the proposed Paramount-Skydance merger, but hopes things get figured out soon. Read his full comments below:
I don’t know, brother. I feel like you guys find out before us… There’s a lot going on at Paramount, Skydance. The whole thing going on, the whole Skydance going on over there. So hopefully we’ll figure it out soon. I hope so.
What This Means For The Transformers & G.I. Joe Crossover Movie
It’s Being Held Up By The Paramount-Skydance Merger
The Transformers and G.I. Joe crossover movie was officially announced at CinemaCon in June 2024, but since then, there have been a few developments impeding its progress. First off, as Anthony Ramos alludes to, is the proposed Paramount-Skydance merger, as the former company owns and produces both franchises. In July 2024, Paramount and Skydance announced an agreement to merge.
That deal is currently expected to be finalized on or before October 5, 2025. Paramount also co-owns the Transformers franchise with Hasbro, and in November 2024, following the disappointing performance of the animated movie Transformers One, Hasbro announced it would cease co-financing film adaptations of its properties, opting instead to have external studios fully fund the projects.
Our Take On The Status Of The Transformers & G.I. Joe Crossover Movie
It’s Complicated
With so much uncertainty at Paramount and Hasbro, it’s difficult to ascertain the status of the Transformers and G.I. Joe crossover movie. To make matters even more complicated, in June 2025, it was announced that Michael Bay is returning to the Transformers franchise to direct a new movie, but it’s unclear if that will be the crossover with G.I. Joe.
It’s been reported that Paramount must start production by 2029, or they could lose the rights to the franchise…
Transformers One director Josh Cooley has also signed on to direct a new live-action movie, but again, it’s unclear what that will be. It’s been reported that Paramount must start production by 2029, or they could lose the rights to the franchise, so in all likelihood, the Transformers and G.I. Joe crossover movie will start filming by then.
