Many years after the original movies, the Fisherman returns to deliver plenty of kills in I Know What You Did Last Summer. In the franchise’s first film, which was released in 1997, Julie, Ray, and their friends are hunted by the Fisherman after accidently running someone over and fleeing the scene.
While Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. return as Julie and Ray for the new I Know What You Did Last Summer movie, it primarily follows a new group of characters, who also flee the scene of a crime. While it is great to see the Fisherman on the big screen again, reviews for I Know What You Did Last Summer have been very disappointing.
Many of the story decisions have been controversial, but fans have also criticized some of the kills in the movie. The slasher film features some thrilling scenes, but most people felt underwhelmed by the end of I Know What You Did Last Summer. Therefore, here is our ranking of every death scene in I Know What You Did Last Summer:
9
Pastor Judah Is Killed Off-Camera
Pastor Judah Is A Red Herring In The Movie
During a town hall meeting after the first two deaths in I Know What You Did Last Summer, Pastor Judah invites anyone to visit his church if they are feeling scared. As the movie goes on, Ava and her friends begin to suspect that Pastor Judah may be the Fisherman. They even go as far as telling this to the police after they find Teddy and his father’s bodies on the pier.
However, when Southport’s police arrive at the church, Pastor Judah has already been killed. As they enter the church, Pastor Judah is propped up near the alter and appears to be praying. However, as they get closer, they see that he has been impaled through the chest with a harpoon. Additionally, his eyes have been gouged out, which is very gruesome.
Unfortunately, Pastor Judah’s fight and eventual death at the hands of the Fisherman happened offscreen. This hasn’t been confirmed, but it seems like Pastor Judah’s death could potentially be one of I Know What You Did Last Summer’s deleted scenes. Regardless, this death is ranked the lowest on this list because we don’t actually get to see it.

The Groundskeeper Is Targeted By The Fisherman
This Is A Quick Kill
The groundskeeper is the only unnamed character who is killed by the Fisherman in I Know What You Did Last Summer. About halfway through the film, the group splits up to try to figure out who is hunting them down. While Ava and Milo visit the car impound lot, Danica and Teddy go to the cemetery and see fresh flowers on Sam Cooper’s grave.
Since he went to the office alone, it was obvious that the groundskeeper was going to die during this scene.
They also spot a camera on a tree which points directly at the grave. Suspecting that the killer brought the flowers, Danica and Teddy convince the groundskeeper to check the camera footage. However, Danica and Teddy do not go to the office with the groundskeeper, which makes him an easy victim for the Fisherman.
Once he starts reviewing the footage in the office, the Fisherman quickly sneaks up behind him and slices his throat. This is definitely the quickest kill in I Know What You Did Last Summer, which is why it is low on this list. Additionally, since he went to the office alone, it was obvious that the groundskeeper was going to die during this scene.

Sam Cooper’s Car Falls From A Cliff
The Characters Flee The Scene Of The Crash
After Danica and Teddy’s engagement party at the beginning of the movie, the characters go for a drive alongside the town’s shoreline, which is where Ray, Julie, and their friends hit a pedestrian in the original movie. The legacy sequel switches things up and doesn’t have the new group of characters hit someone with their car.
However, after Teddy scares Danica as a prank, she pulls over on the part of the road that is known as reaper’s curve. While they are stopped, Teddy decides to stand in the middle of the road. The other characters tell him to come back to the side, but he doesn’t. The first car which pᴀsses by makes for a close call, but the second car ends with a tragic death.
Trying to avoid Teddy, Sam Cooper veers off the road and crashes into the side barrier. Ava and the rest of her friends try to save him, but the car tips off the cliff and crashes into the rocks below, killing Sam Cooper. While not at the hands (or hook) of the Fisherman, this is definitely a very horrific death in I Know What You Did Last Summer, and sets the stage for the movie’s killing spree.
6
Ava & Julie Team Up To Kill Ray
Ray Being One Of The Killers Is A Shocking Twist
Without a doubt, making Ray the killer in I Know What You Did Last Summer is the most controversial aspect of the movie. Throughout the film, Ray helps the core group of characters as they deal with being hunted by the Fisherman. In fact, Ray is seemingly more of a help than Julie, who hasn’t returned to Southport in years.
During the climax of the movie, Ray shoots Stevie, the film’s other killer, which sends her overboard. After this, Ray and Ava return to his bar in Southport alone. The movie seems to be coming to a close, but Ava and Julie both realize that Ray has been working with Stevie all along. While Ava fights for her life against Ray, Julie rushes back to Southport to save her.
The movie ends with a confrontation between Julie and Ray. Right as Ray is about to kill his former wife, Ava shoots him through the back with a harpoon gun. This is definitely the most notable death in I Know What You Did Last Summer, but it could’ve been more extreme, especially considering Ray is one of the two main villains of the movie.
5
Milo Is Strangled By The Fisherman
Milo Shouldn’t Have Left The House
From the very start of the movie, it’s clear that Ava and Milo want to get back together after previously dating in high school. While the core group is spending the night together at Teddy’s house, Ava and Milo share a room and start hooking up. During this scene, Ava asks Milo to choke her. However, quickly becoming overwhelmed, Milo asks if they can stop and leaves.
Milo getting choked is ironic in a darkly comedic way, which makes this death quite memorable.
He ends up going outside and sitting in his car. He remains in the car with the door open for an uncomfortable amount of time. During this scene, the audience waits for him to be attacked, but the Fisherman doesn’t strike until he’s about to go back inside. Right as he’s about to return to safety, the killer wraps a noose around his neck and starts choking him.
The Fisherman continues to strangle Milo until his neck breaks, making him the first main character to be killed in I Know What You Did Last Summer. This death is one of the least bloody in the movie, but that doesn’t mean it’s not gruesome. Additionally, Milo getting choked is ironic in a darkly comedic way, which makes this death quite memorable.

Grant Dies While Holding His Son
Grant Was The Most Influential Person In Southport
In I Know What You Did Last Summer, it is revealed that Grant, Teddy’s father, is the one who restored the reputation of Southport after the mᴀssacre in 1997. Since he is a real estate developer who wanted to capitalize on the seaside town, Grant covered up the murders of characters like Helen Shivers and Barry Cox and turned Southport into the “Hamptons of the South.“
In the film, Grant is also the one responsible for making sure Teddy and his friends never get in trouble for being involved in Sam Cooper’s death. When the Fisherman returns in I Know What You Did Last Summer, he tries his best to convince the residents of Southport that Tyler’s death was a suicide and Wyatt died after his house was broken into.
However, near the end of the movie, Grant has his own encounter with the Fisherman. While holding his son’s body in his arms, the Fisherman sinks his hook into Grant’s neck, which leads to his slow death. Grant was definitely not a good person in I Know What You Did Last Summer, but watching him die while holding his son is somewhat tragic. Additionally, seeing his body hang on the pier the next morning is horrifying.
3
Tyler Is Hung For The Town To See
Tyler Was Obsessed With True Crime
Speaking of a body being hung by the Fisherman, Tyler’s death was definitely one of the most brutal in I Know What You Did Last Summer. In the film, Tyler is a true-crime podcaster who is visiting Southport to record an episode about the 1997 mᴀssacre. Unfortunately, she picked the worst time possible to visit the cursed seaside town.
Near the beginning of the movie, Tyler takes Ava to Bayside Manor, a restaurant that used to be the Shivers Department Store, which is where Helen was killed in the original movie. While exploring the building, Ava and Tyler are attacked by the Fisherman. Tyler tries to escape up the elevator shaft, which mirrors one of the most iconic scenes in the original movie.
Surrounded by creepy mannequins on the upstairs floor of the building, the killer catches Tyler and hangs her from the building for the whole town to see. Tyler’s body hanging as the town celebrates the Fourth of July is definitely one of the most eerie sH๏τs in the movie, which is why her death is near the top of this list.
2
Wyatt Is The Fisherman’s First Victim
Danica Is In The House While Wyatt Is Murdered
After Sam Cooper dies and the movie jumps to one year later, it is revealed that Danica and Teddy have called off their engagement. Danica quickly moved on and got engaged to Wyatt. During her bridal party, Danica gets a note which, obviously, reads “I Know What You Did Last Summer.” Stressed out, she decides to take a bath that night.
Danica walks downstairs and finds Wyatt propped up by a harpoon with a threatening message smeared in blood on the wall above him.
While Danica is in the bath with headphones on, Wyatt gets attacked by the Fisherman. Wyatt gets sH๏τ through the chest with a harpoon gun and begs for his life, all while Danica is taking a relaxing bath. Wyatt is sH๏τ once again, this time through the stomach, and, covered in blood, tries to crawl away from the Fisherman.
Unfortunately, the killer easily catches up to Wyatt and stabs him. Not long after, Danica walks downstairs and finds Wyatt propped up by a harpoon with a threatening message smeared in blood on the wall above him. This death was heavily featured in the trailers for I Know What You Did Last Summer, which takes away the surprise factor, but it is still definitely one of the most gruesome kills in the movie.
1
Teddy Puts Up A Fight Against The Fisherman
The Fisherman Takes Their Time While Killing Teddy
Even though Teddy is the main reason why all these deaths occur in I Know What You Did Last Summer, he is one of the most entertaining characters in the movie. At a certain point, audiences want Teddy to survive and possibly rekindle his romance with Danica. However, that unfortunately was never in the cards for him, as the Fisherman kills him just before the film’s climax.
While sitting on the dock at his house, Teddy spots a dark figure standing in the cellar. He investigates, and the Fisherman manages to catch him by surprise by hiding in front of a statue. Teddy and the Fisherman fight each other in the cellar and the former puts up a great fight, even spitting his blood at the killer’s face.
However, Teddy does indeed get stabbed multiple times. He makes it out of the cellar, but is forced to crawl towards his house. Teddy yells out to his parents but they can’t hear him, which gives the Fisherman time to wipe off their blade and finish the job. Without a doubt, this is the most gruesome and heartbreaking death scene in I Know What You Did Last Summer.
