KPop Demon Hunters Breakout Star Has A New Record-Setting Paramount Movie, Release Date & Plot Details Confirmed

A KPop Demon Hunters star will lead a new movie by Paramount, also focused on the world of K-pop. KPop Demon Hunters is still leading the streaming charts, amounting to a mᴀssive, unexpected success for Netflix and becoming the family streaming event of the summer.

The KPop Demon Hunters cast is led by Arden Cho, May Hong, and Ji-young Yoo as the K-pop girl group Huntr/x, who moonlight as demon hunters and are working to solidify the Honmoon barrier to protect their world. Overall, KPop Demon Hunters has reinforced the only-growing interest in Korean pop culture worldwide, which will lead to other major projects.

Per Variety, Ji-young Yoo, who voices Huntr/x’s lyricist and rapper Zoey, will be starring in Paramount’s currently unтιтled movie about K-pop, alongside singer-songwriter Eric Nam. It is scheduled to release in theaters on Feb. 27, 2027, and will be the first major American studio movie to be sH๏τ entirely in South Korea. The premise is as follows:

The story revolves around a young Korean American woman who defies her family’s wishes by competing in a televised compeтιтion to find the next K-pop girl group.

The movie’s director, Benson Lee (Seoul Searching). expressed his excitement for the project and love for K-pop, saying the following in a statement:

This film is my love letter to K-pop — its energy, pᴀssion, magic, and the incredible community behind it. I’m deeply grateful to Paramount Pictures for championing the project, to our producers for their unwavering dedication, to our talented and dynamic cast, and to the legends of the genre helping us bring this story to life. This one’s for the dreamers.

What This Means For KPop Demon Hunters’ Ji-young Yoo

People Will Love To Work With The Members Of Huntr/x From Now On

Lee and Paramount’s new project seems to be a classic underdog narrative about following your dreams, which uses a strong, basic structure as a vehicle to celebrate K-pop itself. Such a feel-good movie with a great soundtrack has wide appeal and could be the next major launchpad for Yoo’s career.

If her performance as Zoey is anything to go by, Yoo will bring a bright, optimistic energy to this movie, presumably as the main character who sets out to become the next big K-pop star. She is perfectly suited to play this character, and KPop Demon Hunters fans will be happy to see her continue to flourish.

The popularity of KPop Demon Hunters will also draw people to this new movie, something Paramount is certainly aware of. The leads of KPop Demon Hunters will be highly marketable names from now on, so we can all count on seeing some more great projects from them (like this one) in the future.

Our Take On Ji-young Yoo’s New K-Pop Movie

We Hope She Still Has Time For More KPop Demon Hunters!

Moreover, Yoo’s new project seems geared towards touching upon some of the same themes as KPop Demon Hunters of overcoming self-doubt, making it a perfect companion piece to the star’s breakout movie. I can’t wait to see such an inspirational music-fest, although I, of course, hope a KPop Demon Hunters sequel is still in the cards as well.

Regardless of what exactly she ends up doing, Yoo is likely to have a busy few years with many opportunities ahead of her. But it seems as though KPop Demon Hunters could kick off an unofficial collection of uplifting movies that all lean into empowering their protagonists and reveling in this genre of music, which would be riotous from start to finish.
