In the latter half of the last decade, Sydney Sweeney has quickly become a household name. Her career was elevated by parts in The White Lotus season 1 and an expanded role in Euphoria season 2, which delved further into her character established by the first season.
After movies like Anyone But You and Immaculate, she is now as popular on the big screen as she is on television. Sweeney will continue to grow her career during the rest of this year, thanks to two releases next month with Eden and Americana.
Sweeney is part of a generation of actors that has boasted many promising stars. One such name is Anya Taylor-Joy. Like Sweeney, Taylor-Joy is an Emmy nominee who has had notable roles both on the small and big screen. Some of her key parts include The Queen’s Gambit and Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.
Sweeney and Taylor-Joy are only nine months apart in age, truly making them fairly equivalent A-listers. While the pair is not competing at the box office in any major way this year, two of their films are now neck-in-neck on streaming.
The Gorge Has Overtaken Echo Valley
Echo Valley Got Middling Reviews
Echo Valley has lost its streaming status to The Gorge. The latter тιтle is a sci-fi horror film starring Taylor-Joy that was released on Apple TV+ on February 14, 2025. Taylor-Joy starred alongside Miles Teller, playing one of two operatives ᴀssigned to work guard towers on opposite sides of a mysterious gorge.
Echo Valley hit Apple TV+ a few months later. This Sweeney-led film was a grounded thriller following the aftermath of what happens when the daughter of a mother-daughter pairing shows up to her mom’s house covered in blood, having committed a horrible crime.
Both movies got mixed reviews, with The Gorge doing slightly better than Echo Valley. The former тιтle got a 62% Tomatometer and 75% Popcornmeter, whereas Echo Valley received a rotten 51% Tomatometer and 53% Popcornmeter.
As per FlixPatrol, The Gorge has now surpᴀssed Echo Valley on the Apple TV+ streaming chart. Taylor-Joy’s тιтle is currently in the no. 2 spot in the United States today, June 23, on the charts, and Echo Valley is at no. 3. Both were beaten by the adventure film Fountain of Youth.
What This Means For Echo Valley And The Gorge
Sweeney Has Time For More Success This Year
The Gorge beating Echo Valley is notable because it was released so long ago. Even with the film less fresh in audiences’ minds, people are choosing it over the more lackluster Echo Valley. A lot of that could be due to the sci-fi movie recently earning an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Television Movie. That has likely brought renewed buzz, hence the sudden resurgence in the streaming charts.
