Don’t Worry, The MCU’s Miles Morales Delay Update Is Still Good News For Marvel

Miles Morales won’t be joining the MCU anytime soon, but that’s actually good news for Spider-Man fans. Since his introduction in 2011, Miles Morales has become a Marvel icon with popular starring roles in comics, animated series, video games, and Sony’s Spider-Verse franchise. Naturally, a live-action Miles Morales is imminent.

In July, Kevin Feige provided an update on Miles Morales’ live-action prospects. Feige stated, “Sony has their brilliant, genius, incredible Spider-Verse animated franchise going and until that finishes, we’ve been told to stay away.” With Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse expected to release in Summer 2027, Miles may not make his MCU debut until much later.

If Marvel begins as soon as possible, the MCU’s Miles would debut in 2028 at the earliest

It will likely take more than three years for Miles Morales to make his MCU debut. Even though 2027’s Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse marks the end of the Spider-Verse trilogy, Marvel may only be able to start working on a Miles appearance afterward. If Marvel begins as soon as possible, the MCU’s Miles would debut in 2028 at the earliest.

Sony’s Spider-Verse Will Only Raise Anticipation For Miles Morales’ MCU Debut

Miles Morales’ MCU Introduction After The Spider-Verse Trilogy Benefits Both Sony and Marvel

Instead of direct compeтιтion, Sony’s Spider-Verse movies are preparing Miles Morales for a live-action adaptation as popular as his animated trilogy. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Its sequel, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, expanded that success with a $690 million global box office haul, becoming one of the highest-grossing animated films of all time.

The Spider-Verse‘s continued success builds a runway for Miles’ eventual MCU debut. By then, Miles will already have an established fanbase and a proven impact on pop culture not derived from Peter Parker. Besides preventing brand confusion, Miles Morales’ post-Spider-Verse MCU debut ensures that his transition to live-action is a headline event, not just a subplot within Peter Parker’s story.

It’s Still Too Early For Miles Morales’ MCU Introduction

Peter Parker Still Has A Long Solo Journey Ahead Of Him

After Spider-Man: No Way Home‘s ending, Peter Parker is ready to restart his superhero career all by himself. He’s no longer able to rely on the Avengers’ resources and support. Phase 4’s reset places Peter on a path to becoming a fully independent superhero, but it may take at least another trilogy to do so.

Like his comic counterpart, Secret Wars‘ multiversal plot may have something to do with Miles Morales’ Earth-616 introduction in the MCU.

Peter may only be ready to mentor a new hero after 2026’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day and two more sequels. By the MCU’s sixth Spider-Man movie, Sony will likely be ready to collaborate with Marvel to introduce Miles, and Tom Holland may be preparing to pᴀss on the torch. Only then would it be a good time to cast the MCU’s Miles Morales.
