Squid Game Star Eliminates His Compeтιтion In Oldboy Director’s New Movie Trailer

Squid Game star Lee Byung-hun stars in a newly-released teaser trailer for an upcoming film by Oldboy director Park Chan-wook, and it looks like an incredibly exciting project that fans of the actor should check out. Park Chan-wook is one of the most acclaimed filmmakers of all time, and after classics like Oldboy, The Handmaiden, and Decision to Leave, this movie could be added to the list.

Lee Byung-hun has exploded in America since his role as the Front Man in Netflix’s Squid Game, but he had previously appeared in popular American movies like Terminator Genisys, The Magnificent Seven, and the G.I. Joe movie series. On top of that, Lee Byung-hun has appeared in all kinds of popular Korean films, such as Mr. Sunshine, I Saw the Devil, and The Match.

Lee Byung-hun Stars In The Teaser Trailer For No Other Choice

From Director Park Chan-wook

The first teaser trailer for No Other Choice is out now, and it looks like an incredibly exciting entry in Park Chan-wook’s filmography. The teaser doesn’t reveal much, with some characters discussing getting fired before showing several sH๏τs of increasing violence and action.

The film is based on the 1997 novel The Ax, and while it isn’t known how closely No Other Choice will stick to the source material, it does give us an idea of what the movie is about. The Ax follows a manager at a paper company who is laid off from his job, causing him to hunt down the candidates who may replace him after his firing.

No Other Choice is set to premiere at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival, which will be held from August 27 to September 5, 2025. It is scheduled to release theatrically in South Korea later in September, meaning that it won’t be long until Park Chan-wook’s latest work is released to the public.

Our Take On Park Chan-wook’s No Other Choice

The Film Is A Throwback To The Vengeance Trilogy

No Other Choice looks like an incredibly exciting film, especially based on Park Chan-wook’s track record. The director’s The Vengeance Trilogy has proven that he can direct some fantastic movies centered around revenge, and No Other Choice is delving back into that theme. The dark comedy thriller aspect of the film also seems incredibly exciting, inviting a lot of comparisons to Oldboy.

Coming off the heels of Squid Game season 3, it is exciting to see Lee Byung-hun take on a different kind of villainous role. Rather than playing the calculating antagonist who is in control of everything, No Other Choice will see his character play a villainous protagonist who is at his breaking point, juxtaposing with his Squid Game role.
