Jurᴀssic World Rebirth’s Box Office Crushed Spielberg’s 56% RT Sequel, But The Next Movie Is A Long Way Off

Jurᴀssic World Rebirth‘s box office has crushed Steven Spielberg’s sequel with a 56% Rotten Tomatoes score, but the next movie is still a long way off. Directed by Gareth Edwards with a script by the franchise’s original screenwriter David Koepp, the new Jurᴀssic World movie follows a team journeying to an island that was once used as a dinosaur research facility.

Jurᴀssic World Rebirth‘s cast introduces several high-profile stars to the franchise, including two-time Oscar nominee Scarlett Johansson (Marriage Story, Jojo Rabbit), two-time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali (Moonlight, Green Book), Bridgerton breakout and Emmy nominee Jonathan Bailey (Fellow Travelers), Emmy nominee Rupert Friend (Homeland), The Lincoln Lawyer star Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, and Ed Skrein.

Jurᴀssic World Rebirth reviews have been mixed, resulting in a 51% score on Rotten Tomatoes, though some critics have called it an improvement over recent sequels. It’s enjoyed a stronger 71% audience score and has been a box office success. Released in theaters on July 2, Rebirth made $322 million worldwide over the extended five-day 4th of July holiday weekend.

In its second weekend, the movie made $40 million, suffering a 56.2% drop, and finishing in second place behind Superman in its opening weekend. Overall, Rebirth has outperformed Steven Spielberg’s sequel at the box office despite similar Rotten Tomatoes scores. However, the next installment in the franchise remains a ways off.

Jurᴀssic World Rebirth’s Box Office Has Flown Past The Lost World

It’s Made $649M Worldwide

To date, Jurᴀssic World Rebirth‘s box office has soared past $649 million worldwide, including $276 million domestically, becoming the fourth-highest-grossing movie of 2025. As a result, Rebirth has flown past 1997’s The Lost World: Jurᴀssic Park, directed by Steven Spielberg with a script written by David Koepp, which made $229 million domestically and $618 million worldwide. Though, of course, this doesn’t account for inflation.

Will Jurᴀssic World Rebirth Catch Dominion?

It Made Over $1B

Despite soaring past The Lost World, Rebirth faces an uphill battle to reach the next movie on the listDominion‘s much bigger $1 billion milestone. In fact, every remaining movie on the list has made over $1 billion.

While still possible, Rebirth making $1 billion is looking more and more unlikely considering its second-weekend drop of 56.2%. In all likelihood, Rebirth might cap at around $800-850, which would still be an enormous success, especially considering its $180 million budget. While Dominion is likely out of reach, Jurᴀssic World Rebirth proves the franchise still has financial life, if there was ever any doubt.
